What is it about Megachurches That Both Encourage and Invite Vile Perverse Reprobates to Occupy Their Pulpits?

Ted Haggard and his ilk seem to be precisely the types of wolves in sheep’s clothing megachurches love.  They sure do seem to call a lot of them.  The latest, a perverted child molester named Jack Schaap.  Mr Schaap

… told a 17-year-old girl that Jesus wanted her to have sexual relations with him.  … “In our ‘fantasy talk,’ you have affectionately spoken of being ‘my wife,’” Schaap wrote to the girl. “That is exactly what Christ desires for us. He wants to marry us + become eternal lovers!”

Last year, Schaap pleaded guilty to having the girl transported across state lines into Michigan so he could have sex with her. Prosecutors said that the former pastor had tricked church members into bringing the girl to his cabin in Cadillac, Michigan because she was “in an extremely vulnerable state” and needed to spend extended time alone with him.

He also allegedly had sex with the girl at his property in Crete, Illinois and at his office at the megachurch.

Letters provided by prosecutors showed that Schaap told his victim that he wanted to put her on a “better path of living — that’s what we call Righteousness.”

“He told me to confide in him, to trust him, and he made me feel safe and comfortable around him as a man of God,” the girl wrote in documents provided by the government. “[Schaap] preyed on that trust and my vulnerability.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jill Koster defended the government’s request that Schaap only receive a 10-year sentence by pointing out that he had agreed to plead guilty before the charges had even been filed.

Sick.  Sick.  Sick.  ‘By their fruits you shall know them’.  Hence, Mr Schaap is known to one and all by his own admission a pedophile.   May he enjoy prison accordingly.

Newt Is a Hypocrite of Immense Proportions

He is to politicians what Ted Haggard is to mega-Church pastors- a massive hypocrite.

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says college students are being coddled, but his own educational record doesn’t exactly elicit images of a person who had to struggle to make ends meet while earning a degree. … But as the Post notes, Gingrich himself took a different path during college, according to a 1995 Vanity Fair article. According to the report, Gingrich leaned on family members for money and said he didn’t want to get a job while in school. Gingrich’s college experience also included a stint as a history professor at West Georgia College. The Wall Street Journal reports that while working at Georgia College, Gingrich was “often absent as he pursued political goals” and that he “spent little time teaching history.”

So he was a mooch, an unemployed git, and now he’s morphed into a hypocrite. He’s the ideal politician. He’s the model elected official.

Lot’s of Christians Can Only Handle ‘Milk’

As the author of Hebrews rightly observed (in Ch 5)-

¹¹ We have a lot to say about this topic, and it’s difficult to explain, because you have been lazy and you have’t been listening. ¹² Although you should have been teachers by now, you need someone to teach you an introduction to the basics about God’s message. You have come to the place where you need milk instead of solid food. ¹³ Everyone who lives on milk is not used to the word of righteousness, because they are babies. ¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between good and evil.  (CEB)

The inability of many to distinguish between good doctrine and bad, good biblical exegesis and bad, good theology and bad, is all too common these days (as in ancient times as well).  That’s exactly why people like Mark Driscoll, Ted Haggard, TD Jakes, Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyers, and the bevy of heretics presently passing themselves off as Christian teachers get away with it and aren’t ‘called out’ by either their churches or the Church at large.

Even many Pastors are too often bereft of the ability to discern the spirits (and probably don’t even recognize that as a biblical phrase).  Churches are in trouble, Christians are in trouble, and the truth is in trouble because too many are satisfied with milk – with remaining infants in doctrinal and biblical studies – and don’t ‘grow up’ to the point where they can handle deeper spiritual truths.

If one thing needs to be said to American Christianity today it’s this: grow up!

What Do You Get When You Mix a Mega Church, Meth, and Homosexuality?

Ted Haggard.  And what do you get when you mix Ted Haggard with a quest for publicity?  Ted Haggard on ABC’s ‘Wife Swap’.

[Haggard] has agreed to star in the new, celebrity version of ABC’s reality-TV series “Wife Swap.”  He’s going to swap wives with Gary Busey.  Seriously. You can’t make this stuff up.  ABC confirmed Haggard had been cast in the celebrity version of its long-running “Wife Swap” show in which people, well, swap wives, but only for a relatively short period of time. Tension and hilarity ensue, some tears are shed, and a good time is had by all.

And what’s it all mean?  It means that Ted isn’t just willing to buy meth and male escorts, he’s also willing to sell himself for fame.  He’s a publicity whore and ABC is pimping him out to a leering public happy to watch the trainwreck in action.

So all Haggard’s talk of repentance and restoration are as big a lie as his claimed heterosexuality.  Were he truly repentant humility would manifest itself and the LAST thing he would do would be to cash in on his fame for being a disgrace.

But he is a disgrace.  And that, at the end of the day, is exactly what you get when you combing meth and mega-church and homosexuality.

Ted Haggard Wants You…

And not just if you’re a male prostitute who also sells drugs.  Ted wants you to watch his – *gasp* – new reality tv show…

Having already embarked on the first steps of an ambitious resurrection campaign, Haggard is now primed to roll out a new reality TV series, titled (provocatively enough) Scandalous. Scheduled to premiere this Sunday, Jan. 16, Haggard is hoping to project a comeback of sorts, rebounding from his very public fall from grace. In the four years since Jones first spoke up, Haggard has claimed to have been “cured” of homosexual urges, and has even opened a new non-denominational church, the St. James Church in Colorado Springs, Colo. In the upcoming series, Haggard says he will address head on his experience of living through the scandal, as well as the financial fallout he suffered as a result.

Ted’s selling himself now. But that’s what Ted has always done. It’s never really been about the Gospel or God for Ted, it’s always been about Ted getting a head.  What an utterly egotistical deviant.  I certainly hope that his series is shorter lived than Sarah Palin’s absurd TLC show or the vile Octamom’s.
