I have received notification from John Day of the sad news about the death of one of our Life Members, Dr Terry L. Fenton. Born in England, a student of G.R. Driver at Oxford, he was for many years a lecturer at Haifa University in Israel. He had been a member of SOTS since 1967 and presented one paper to the Society in 2000; but he hadn’t attended meetings in recent years and remained in Haifa after retirement.
John tells me that he mainly wrote articles on Biblical studies and Ugaritic, and was a lively lecturer. Terry’s death was announced yesterday by Prof. Gershon Galil, Professor of Biblical studies at Haifa University; and an official obituary notice in Hebrew about his death has been issued by Haifa university. Condolences can be posted there, on the site, by anyone who so wishes. May he RIP.
