And naturally it’s a volume on the Historical Jesus…
What justification could there possibly be for such a price? Is it made out of Unicorn Hide????? Shameful. And ridiculous. With thanks to Chuck Gratham for mentioning the depravity.

Usually you see these prices on out of print volumes someone is trying to make a killing on, but not this one. The used paperbacks aren’t too outrageous.

I think this can sometimes happen when non-Amazon vendors use automated pricing that sets their price slightly higher than the price offered by other vendors. This might be especially true of “vendors” who actually buy the book from someone else who has it for slightly lower.
The automated process ratchets the prices up, and nobody notices or cares (especially if the book isn’t actually in inventory anyway).
Here’s a case where a $35 science text about flies wound up ratcheting up to $23 Million due to two vendors doing exactly this kind of thing.

The ones I think are even worse are the people who post “ebooks” consisting of a bit of wikipedia. Or, worse, the description text of a popular iPhone game, presented in such a way that people might think they’re buying the game for their Kindle Fire, when actually they’re paying several dollars for a few paragraphs of text.

Amazon has it cheaper than the publisher:

I’m assuming the pages are infused with gold and the cover is diamond encrusted.
