The Pope Has Lost His Mind

He’s gone loony and taken his ‘People’s Pope’ persona past the brink of theological sensibility this time.

Following last weekend’s disastrous peace doves release, Pope Francis on Wednesday blessed a parrot that turned out to belong to a male stripper.  The pontiff initially passed the green parrot, named Amore, while making the rounds of St. Peter’s Square in the popemobile for his weekly general audience, according to ABC News. He eventually made his way back to bless the bird.  Italian news service ANSA identified the parrot’s owner as Francesco Lombardi, a former male stripper and town council leader in Northern Italy who now acts in erotic films.

Dear Pope,

It might be a good idea to 1) stop blessing everything you see since sometimes you may be blessing something God wouldn’t.  And 2) get your people to screen the visitors who shove things in your face for blessing.  And, finally, 3), what the heck sense does it make to ‘bless’ a bird anyway???  What’s the exegetical or theological justification for it?  Or are you simply trying to appear folksy and homey and like your lunatic namesake who actually believed he talked to animals?  Don’t you see that such acts of ‘blessing’ actually mock authentic blessing and blessedness which are always and everywhere connected to fellowship with Christ?

Your friend,

Jim

  2. When “evangelicals” (more like loony “pennycost”) in Brazil are training parrots to repeat John 3:16 (according to my unreliable sources in that now fully not so Roman Catholic country), perhaps the pope is rushing into making the talking bird into a Roman Catholic go get ahead of any threat; no more “protestants”, please! It may make perfect sense to him! 😉

  3. Everyone keeps talking about the owner of the parrot and how this is a blessing to him. Funny, I never read anything about the Pope blessing the man. This is about the bird, and bird only.
