What Has the World Come to When an Amish Man Engages in Sexting with a Minor?

An Amish man from Milford, Ind., who pulled into a police sting operation in a horse and buggy has been charged with soliciting a 12-year-old girl via sexting.

Willard Yoder, 21, allegedly sent more than 600 text, picture and video messages to the local girl that he didn’t know, including solicitations for sex and naked images of himself.

She is not Amish.

“[Yoder] told me several times that he just randomly chose that [telephone] number,” Det. Craig Pennington of the Connersville Police Department said. “He just punched a number, hoping for a reply. If that is true, that’s kind of scary because I’m sure that’s not the first time that ever happened.”

Alarmed by the disturbing messages, the girl told her mother, who later informed the police.

A Yoder… how ironic.  When did the Amish start using cellphones… and sexting?

  1. it could have been an old text message and he just pressed send accidentally when he came across this odd looking gadget he is not used to. Yeah, he did that 600 times. 🙂

  2. Jim,

The Amish in Indiana aren’t old order Amish. Some Ordnungen allow cell phones. We buy milk from an Amish farmer who is allowed to have a generator for his milking operation. He also has electric fencing that is solar powered. There are Amish farms with solar panels on the roof. Basically, as long as they aren’t connected to the grid, it is fine. The grid is what makes you worldly and corrupts you…

James, surrounded by Amish who never cease to amaze me, in good and bad ways
