Rep. Trey Gowdy defended the Benghazi hearings Sunday on Meet the Press, but suggested in the future that the panel will err on the side of “private” interviews.
“I can just tell you that in the 50 some odd interviews we have done thus far, the vast majority of them have been private and you don’t see the bickering among the members of Congress in private interviews,” Gowdy said.
Gowdy told host Chuck Todd that Hillary Clinton requested the “voluntary interview” be public, which he noted was “well within her rights,” but added that there is never “any of what you saw Thursday” in closed-door hearings. “It is one hour on the Republican side, one hour on the Democrat side, which is why you’re going to see the next two dozen interviews done privately,” Gowdy said. “The private ones always produce better results.”
Asked whether the cameras affected how the representatives conducted themselves during the hearing, Gowdy replied, “What do you think, Chuck?”
Why go private now? Because the purpose of the ‘hearings’ was to discredit Clinton and that having backfired, everything will now be done under the cover of darkness and secrecy. Proving what? That this was a witch hunt from the get go and that our Congress is bereft of morals and has no ethics and cares nothing for the truth but instead only uses its office as a political stage on which to enact political theater only for the purpose of elections.
Congress doesn’t work for you, it works for itself. All of them do. Regardless of party. The only people Congress serves are the people in Congress.
Each and every one of you needs to be fired. And anyone who ever votes for any of you incompetent self-centered vile evil reprobates again needs to have their head examined for sending you back to do to America what you’re doing.
You’re a disgrace to this country.
Harvard’s ironic seal.
Proving, I suppose, once again, that it isn’t the school one attends, but the drive and ethics one possesses that makes the difference. But we all knew that. Well most of us knew it long ago: some poor besotted dimwits still think that education is purely dependent on the place instead of the student. The best students are the ethical and self motivated ones.
Harvard University has imposed academic sanctions on dozens of students for cheating in a final exam, a dean said in an email to students. “More than half” of 125 students under investigation were asked to leave for a period of time; others face probation. An inquiry began when a tutor noticed identical answers to a take-home exam for an undergraduate politics course. The review expanded to include nearly half the 279 students enrolled in the course, the Harvard Crimson said.
Miscreants. Lazy little feckless miscreants.
Correspondents say there have been complaints that exam rules for the Introduction to Congress class were unclear, and over the university’s handling of the investigation.
Introduction to Congress huh? That figures. Now it makes perfect sense: an unethical bunch of cheaters studying an unethical bunch of cheaters.
[And once more we learn the hard truth that the only thing the accreditation industry ensures is higher educational costs and riches for the people who work for accrediting agencies. What a scam. What a shock that supposedly educated and learned people continue to buy into the scam which, at the end of the day, accomplishes nothing concerning honest and meaningful education].
Sir or Madam,
Do you see what you’re doing? You’re wrecking this country. Destroying it. Why?
NPR has reported that the World Bank has lowered its economic forecast: Uncertainty “has already dampened growth.”
What’s wrong with you people? We elected you to do a job. Stop your moronic partisan bickering and DO IT.
And yet- it seems both happen… and it’s OUTRAGEOUS.
President Barack Obama gave a New Year’s gift to returning members of Congress, federal workers and Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, signing an executive order calling for an end to a years-long pay freeze.
As of March 27, 2013, federal employees will see a half-percent to one percent pay increase, marking the end of a pay freeze that has been in place since late 2010. Congress hasn’t seen a pay raise since 2009.
According to the order, Biden’s pay will increase from $225,521 to $231,900 a year, before taxes. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will see his salary increased to $224,500 and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will take home an annual pay of $194,400 after his raise.
For doing what??????? Aggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. I hate the government. I’m not given to profanity, but I have to confess that there are some colorful words swimming around my head right now.
Only the government would reward absolute incompetence this way. It’s OUTRAGEOUS. Fire them all. With thanks to Brian Fulthorpe for pointing it out and giving me an aneurysm.
The Republicans in Congress are willing to let the Country slide into a severe recession, see millions lose their income, and watch the unemployment rate rise to over 9%, just to protect the money of the richest .1% of the people.
The Republicans simply don’t care about you. They aren’t watching out for you. They don’t have your back. The only people they care about are their rich cohorts. Why do you care so much for them? Why do you vote for them?
It’s the attempt of our perverse politicians to justify their existence in a cynical sort of ‘see, you need us here or things would go all apocalyptic up in this place’. They evidently don’t realize that we’re smart enough to know that their stupidity and petty smallness is precisely what brought us to the precipice in the first place.
Frankly, I’m so sick to death of these elected officials that I’m willing to see the country plunge off the edge into the blackness if their bodies are the first ones over and the rest of us get to land on them and thus survive quite nicely.
Why, in the name of all that is holy, did people send these imbeciles back to Washington? Why? It makes no sense. Away with Congress- we need a Parliamentary system. We need to literally Re-Form the government and anyone presently in office needs to be forbidden to serve as anything more important than crossing guard.
They (politicians) are the cause of every evil in this Country.
The Washington Post informs us-
One-hundred-thirty members of Congress or their families have traded stocks collectively worth hundreds of millions of dollars in companies lobbying on bills that came before their committees, a practice that is permitted under current ethics rules, a Washington Post analysis has found. The lawmakers bought and sold a total of between $85 million and $218 million in 323 companies registered to lobby on legislation that appeared before them, according to an examination of all 45,000 individual congressional stock transactions contained in computerized financial disclosure data from 2007 to 2010.
It’s ok for Congress to do it because Congress makes it’s own rules for itself. If others do it, it’s called insider trading and they go to prison for it. Just ask Martha Stewart.
Almost one in every eight trades — 5,531 — intersected with legislation. The 130 lawmakers traded stocks or bonds in companies as bills passed through their committees or while Congress was still considering the legislation. The party affiliation of the lawmakers was almost evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, 68 to 62.
Party doesn’t matter- if they’re in Congress, they’re self-serving.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) reported buying $25,000 in bonds in a genetic-technology company around the time that he released a hold on legislation the firm supported. Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) sold between $50,000 and $100,000 in General Electric stock shortly before a Republican filibuster killed legislation sought by the company. The family of Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Tex.) bought between $286,000 and $690,000 in a high-tech company interested in a bill under his committee’s jurisdiction.
Conflict of interest anyone? And these are the sorts of people you keep sending back to Washington. Don’t complain about them anymore if you vote for them. You are their enablers.
The imbeciles in Congress; the lifers at the Court; and the inhabitants of the Executive branch are ALL covered by the very insurance they would deny the vast majority of people in this country.
Each and every one of us, taxpayers all, deserve what our employees (government dole-recipients) receive. From the welfare-ites at the low end of the economic ladder to the highly paid elected and appointed government drains, we’re paying for them all. Meanwhile we have to pay for our own insurance too. It’s sickening and enraging.
It’s time for health care to be nationalized. Socialized medicine- that’s what we need- so that we get what these self centered ‘officials’ get.
Great news, America! Some of the dumbest people in the country are leading your nation, according to Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Did we really need him to tell us that?
“We got some of the smartest people in the country who serve here, and some of the dumbest. We got some of the best people you’d ever meet, and some of the raunchiest. We’ve got ’em all,” he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Well except for the smart people serve in Washington bit, he’s right. Congress is a collection of perverts and reprobates and idiots. And that’s why America, the wealthiest Country in the world, is really poor.
The Washington Post has a sickening report on Congressional self-serving.
AU.S. senator from Alabama directed more than $100 million in federal earmarks to renovate downtown Tuscaloosa near his own commercial office building. A congressman from Georgia secured $6.3 million in taxpayer funds to replenish the beach about 900 feet from his island vacation cottage. A representative from Michigan earmarked $486,000 to add a bike lane to a bridge within walking distance of her home.
Thirty-three members of Congress have directed more than $300 million in earmarks and other spending provisions to dozens of public projects that are next to or within about two miles of the lawmakers’ own property, according to a Washington Post investigation.
The worst part?
Under the ethics rules Congress has written for itself, this is both legal and undisclosed.
Congress makes rules which suit itself. Because Congress, to a man and woman, is a posse of evildoer porksters.
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will step down from Congress this week, her staff said today, and not seek re-election when her current term expires this year. “I have more work to do on my recovery and so to do what is best for Arizona I will step down this week,” Giffords said in a video posted online Sunday. “Thank you for your prayers and for giving me time to recover.”
A politician who actually cares more about here constituents than her position. She’s one in a million. If the rest of Congress cared for their constituents half as much as she does, they would resign today too.
Wikipedia is going dark! Darn it, it’s just for one day. But still, one day is better than none.
Do not try to look up “Internet Censorship” or “SOPA” or “PIPA” on Wikipedia, the giant online encyclopedia, on Wednesday. SOPA and PIPA are two bills in Congress meant to stop the illegal copying and sharing of movies and music on the Internet, but major Internet companies say the bills would put them in the impossible position of policing the online world. Wikipedia’s founder, Jimmy Wales, now says his site will go dark for the day on Wednesday, joining a budding movement to protest the two bills. “This is going to be wow,” Wales said on Twitter. “I hope Wikipedia will melt phone systems in Washington on Wednesday. Tell everyone you know!”
Wow, what a self important prat that Wales guy is. Does he really think if Wikipedia isn’t available the whole world will be in mourning and Congress will be deluged? I suppose, thinking about it, that he may be right. After all, there are a lot of teens who don’t know how to read a book and a lot of dilettantes who can’t manage to track down accurate research. Both groups depend on Wikipedia for their entire source of information. Plus, there are the armies of aluminum foil hat wearers who festoon wikipedia with misinformation or who distort entries just because they can.
Given the state of intellectual activity these days, a lot of folk will miss wikipedia. I won’t be one of them. I don’t use it unless I’m looking for a loony inaccurate blotch of nonsense. And that doesn’t happen often.
So again, Wikipedia, good riddance. May you remain dark.
10- Harold Camping and his intolerable lies.
9- Fred Phelps.
8- The United States Congress.
7- Christian Zionists.
6- The High price of SBL annual meeting registration.
3- Every ‘News’ report about the Kardashians.
And the absolutely MOST annoying thing of 2011?
1- Top 10 and ‘best of’ lists of all sorts, types, and genders, paraded by their purveyors as if they had actually looked at absolutely everything and could determine the best from the worst. Such foolishness.
Because your elected officials ARE the wealthy- ergo, their policies and laws are meant only to preserve their own wealth and power.
Before he ran for Congress in 1974, Gary Myers was a steel mill worker. His campaign set him back $33,000. Today, Myers’ seat is occupied by Mike Kelly, a wealthy car dealer who married into the Phillips oil fortune. His campaign cost $1.2 million. That contrast is emblematic of the widening wealth gap between members of Congress and their constituents, the Washington Post observes. Between 1984 and 2009, the median net worth of House members more than doubled—from $280,000 to $725,000—even as median household income declined by $100 to $20,500.
It’s not hard to figure out why Congress does what it does. Just follow the money. (And you keep sending the same greedy criminals back, so you’re just getting what you deserve).
When you elect evil you ought not be shocked when evil does what it is.
The majority of Americans just aren’t smart enough to know that THEIR Congressman is part of the problem too. Which is why the contemptible imps remain in office election after election.
Another day, another record low for Congress: Just 20% of respondents in the latest Gallup poll believe most members should be reelected. And a record high, too: The poll also finds that 76% don’t believe most representatives should be reelected. That’s the highest number since Gallup started asking the question 19 years ago, and six points higher than it was in August, the Los Angeles Times reports. “If voters’ current sentiments toward Congress prevail through next November’s election, it is possible that control of the House would flip back to the Democrats,” writes the editor in chief of the poll. Of course, 53% of respondents say they’ll reelect their own representatives. “Most voters believe Washington is broken because other people’s congressman broke it,” notes an analyst.
Smarten up America! You can’t honestly be THAT dumb. If you are, and if you vote for anyone in office, you deserve the disaster you’re going to get. In spades.
NPR reports on the constant chorus of Republican Congressmen who insistently whine that small business owners are opposed to a surtax. The problem is that such persons as the Repubs claim exist don’t appear to be real at all.
Ever since the idea of the surtax was introduced weeks ago, Republicans in Congress have railed against it, arguing that it is a direct hit on small-business owners and other job creators. The argument is that many small-business owners report company profits on their individual taxes because of the way their businesses are structured. Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., says the surtax would hurt their ability to hire.
Sure, Senator. Lie on.
We wanted to talk to business owners who would be affected. So, NPR requested help from numerous Republican congressional offices, including House and Senate leadership. They were unable to produce a single millionaire job creator for us to interview.
What a shock. Read the whole report – it’s quite good and shows yet again that our politicians are the best liars in the world and more than happy to distort the facts to suit their political agenda.
No one in their right mind could disagree with Gingrich when he says
‘We need somebody with very substantial big ideas’ (in the White House).
That’s certainly true. But we need someone with substantial big ideas AND a Congress with the willingness to do substantial legislation. Unfortunately no one – Democrat or Republican – really has ideas of substance and Congress is a completely useless body without either substance or ideas.
Government is broken. The Tea People can’t fix it and the Occupy people can’t fix it (they can’t even articulate what it is they desire with any sort of uniformity). Perhaps the Dominionists can fix it… [heaven forfend].
