If I Were Forced Today at Gunpoint to Vote…

And there were ONLY two choices: I would vote for Sarah Palin before I would vote for Mitt Romney.  I would vote for George Bush before I would vote for Mitt.  I would vote for Silvio Berlusconi before I would vote for Mitt.  I would vote for Vladimir Putin before I would vote for Mitt.  And I’d get pretty close to voting for Bashar al Asaad before I’d vote for Mitt.

That is, if it were Mitt v. just about anyone (short of Satan) I would be forced to vote for anyone but Mitt.  Indeed, I would eve vote for Bibi Netanyahu before I would vote for Romney.  That should indicate – in some small measure – how inept I am convinced Romney is.  The Republicans have given us NO ONE to vote for on their side of the ledger. NO ONE.

We have no choice.  It’s either the failed policies of the present administration (and, please, let’s not kid ourselves, they are failed) or the miserable excuse the other party has offered. These are sad days for America.  Never before in my lifetime have the candidates from both parties been so uniformly abysmal.

Oh Sarah, You’re Really Unhinged Aren’t You?

Reports the Telegraph

Sarah Palin has not ruled out running for president saying “anything’s possible” as she cast a vote for Newt Gingrich at Alaska’s GOP Super Tuesday primary last night.

No Sarah, anything isn’t possible. There are a lot of things that will never happen. One of them is Palin being elected to national office. Even America isn’t that insane.

The former Republican vice-presidential candidate told a CNN reporter she would “seriously consider whatever I can do to help our country” when asked if she would agree to being put forward if the party faced a brokered convention.  The Tea Party darling also indicated she would consider running in the 2016 presidential race, if asked.

What you can do to help our country is stay in Alaska and watch Russia from your porch. You can be our early warning device always alert for that Russian invasion you’re expecting…

Is Sarah Palin Mentally Ill?

It sure seems so.  And it’s sad.

Sarah Palin is back in the news.  Just when you thought it was safe to turn on the teevee or read the newspaper, Sarah Palin, the Narcissism Poster Child, prances back.  The key words:  brokered convention.  “We could be looking at a brokered convention,” she told Fox Business Network on Wednesday night. “Months from now, if that’s the case, all bets are off as to who it will be, willing to offer up themselves up in their name in service to their country. I would do whatever I could to help.”

I think JJ has rightly deciphered the meaning of Palin’s comment:

And by “help” and “offering up,” I don’t think she meant leading group discussions on the economic policies of the Bush years.  Sarah’s the only candidate I’ve ever seen who could victimize herself into office.  Sarah wants to be President without all the bother of that pesky thing called campaigning.

The only way she could truly believe she could bounce into the Convention and be nominated is if she’s mentally ill.  I used to worry about the Country with her in charge; but now I’m genuinely concerned that she suffers some mental disease.  I’m worried for her.

Sarah Palin: Duplicity and Ignorance Incarnate

2012 Republican Presidential Candidates

Circle of Death

Sometimes we imagine that there’s something out there called ‘duplicity’ and something else called ‘ignorance’ and we like to pretend that they are just occasional interlopers.

But we’re wrong.  Duplicity and ignorance aren’t just things- they are realities and they have manifested themselves in human form in the person of Sarah Palin.  She isn’t duplicitous, she is duplicity.  Likewise, she isn’t ignorant, she’s ignorance.

Oh sure, there are Americans who have been deceived by her apparent charm and wit (and even a few sadly deceived and tragically blind Irish clerics) but peel off the facade of speech-prep and trying-as-hard-as-they-can-to-make-her-sound-intelligent writers and what’s left is duplicity and ignorance in the very flesh.

Scene 1: Van Susteren asks Palin about the presidential-ambition denials of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Palin: “I think that we can take Gov. Christie at his word…. He kinda put the nail in the coffin of speculation that he would run [with] the announcement he made today.” Palin goes on to say, “I think that a lot of the push for Chris Christie and for others comes not just from those within the party but the inside baseball within the media.”

Scene No. 2: Van Susteren asks Palin how the presidential race should be covered. How to cover the races?

Palin: “There’s a lot of information out there—a lot of white noise …we learned our lesson in electing Barack Obama, who was not vetted by the media. The media did not do its job in the last go-round.”

Scene No. 5: Van Susteren probes Palin’s decision-making considerations regarding the GOP bid.

Palin: “I keep repeating that decisionmaking as to whether I should throw my name in the hat for the GOP nomination or not for 2012” boils down to: “Does a title shackle a person—are they someone like me who’s maverick, you know, I do go rogue.”

Scene No. 6: Van Susteren asks if Palin thinks she could win.In other words: The maverick is back.

Palin: “I do!”

In other words: This is what Fox pays for.

If this woman runs she will lose.  If Republicans nominate her, they are more foolish than the imbeciles presently serving in Congress.  When she announces her candidacy (if she does) every Democrat in the country should thank God because with that single act she will ensure the re-election of Obama.  She isn’t just duplicitous (holding on to her Fox moneybag while teasing her sycophants with a potential run), she’s also ignorant (if she imagines for half a second she can win).

It was she who lost McCain the election.  She will lose any race she runs for Republicans.  She is the kiss of death, the black widow, the ‘family values’ momma with a grandson out of wedlock.  She is contradiction itself.

America’s Reactionary Feminists

Go get ’em Al Jazeera! A-J asks

What do Palin and Bachmann have that make them so appealing to the American public?

I don’t know. A lot of foolish voters?

Both Bachmann and Palin are regularly derided in the mainstream press. In Palin’s case, the dominant perception is that she is an intellectual lightweight: a clip of her unable to mention a single newspaper or news magazine that she reads regularly got millions of hits on YouTube during the last presidential election.

Bachmann, on the other hand, is portrayed as being slightly unhinged. Indeed, I can attest from personal experience that to debate her is to encounter someone who is absolutely certain of facts that must exist somewhere in a parallel universe.

But it would be a mistake simply to dismiss their appeal with no effort to comprehend its source. This is especially true of Bachmann. Palin has not managed to secure the support and mentorship of the Republican Party establishment, and will continue to showcase her odd appeal as a media personality. But Bachman, weirdly, might become President of the United States.

Give it all a read.

The Truth About Bob Cargill’s Move to Iowa

Teaching position? Not so fast. Here’s the REAL reason

A public relations firm says a film about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will premiere in the small central Iowa town of Pella. Hayley McConnell of CRC Public Relations told The Associated Press on Friday that “The Undefeated,” a documentary about Palin’s rise and time as governor, is set to open at the Pella Opera House on Tuesday. That’s the same day President Barack Obama plans to visit Bettendorf, Iowa, to promote manufacturing jobs.

Busted, Bob! Busted!

A New Feature: Something Else I Won’t Be Reading

Book reviews are an important part of the scholarly enterprise.  From them, we learn both what to expect from a publication and what its strengths and weaknesses might be.

But sometimes things just don’t look like they should be read at all.

So, as a public service to you, my beloved visitors in your daily thousands, I’m commencing a new feature, with it’s own tag and all, titled ‘Something Else I won’t be Reading’.

When such things are noted, they aren’t, properly speaking, reviews (given that fact that true reviews are based on an actual reading of the text in question!).  Are they anti-reviews?  No, not really.  They’re simply something else I won’t be reading.  They might be a book or a blog or an essay or a news report or whatever else can fall under the category of ‘stuff that people read’.

Today, to kick off the feature, here’s something else I won’t be reading.

After a more than two and a half years of delays, the state of Alaska released on Friday thousands of emails sent and received by Sarah Palin during her tenure as governor. The emails were originally sought by journalists, citizens and other groups in September 2008, shortly after Palin was tapped by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to serve as the Republican Party’s vice presidential nominee. The emails’ release was repeatedly delayed, in part because of the sheer number of files, and in part because Palin used a personal email address to conduct public business — complicating and expanding the records request.

No, I won’t be bothering.  I just don’t care whether or not she writes about moose hunting or her unexpected surprise grandbaby or Bristol’s boy creature.

Romney/Palin?

It could be the dream team for the Repubs.

Romney appears formidable: In a general-election trial heat in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll he runs evenly with Barack Obama among all Americans, and numerically outpoints him, 49-46 percent, among registered voters — not a statistically significant lead, given sampling error, but a clear reflection of Obama’s vulnerability to a well-positioned challenger.

Think about it…  Just imagine all the possibilities of a Romney/Palin ticket…  and victory…

Still More Proof of the Pointlessness of Wikipedia

According to Christian

Well, I guess when you’re an intellectual lightweight and your fans are even less intelligent, this sort of shenanigans only makes sense. It seems that Palin’s fans, upset at the rest of the world for laughing at Palin’s version of Paul Revere‘s Midnight Ride, are now attempting, en masse, to change the Wikipedia entry for Paul Revere to make it match Palin’s F-minus version of history.

Yes, completely unsurprising.

The Dream [Nightmare] Ticket… Bachmann/ Palin 2012!

Wouldn’t a Bachmann/Palin ticket be super awesome?  Two tea people who have a combined IQ of 14 and the political experience and know how of a water buffalo.  It’s fantastic.  You can almost hear America die in anticipation…

Tea party star Michele Bachmann is planning to launch an exploratory campaign for president in June or possibly sooner, CNN has learned.  A source close to the Minnesota congresswoman told CNN that Bachmann has been telling others that her filing and announcement will take place in “early summer.” But if a debate sponsor indicates an exploratory committee is necessary for participation, Bachmann may file earlier.

If they’d just team up and campaign we could all watch as America draws its last breath and expires.  Come on girls, join hands and do what Al-Qaeda hasn’t been and never will be able to do: bring the country to ruination.

Sarh Palin in Jerusalem: A Jewish Perspective

From a colleague in Jerusalem-

The Press have just reported that

“Palin, who was wearing a large Star of David, told Danon that she had flags of Israel “on my desk, in my home, all over the place” and that she would carry around a flag she bought in Israel.”

That will surely get the Christian-Zionist vote, but not the rest of the educated women, Jewish and other, when they find out that the Wall where she was taken is sharply divided into men and women’s sections; that in the summer the women pray in the blazing sun whereas the men have AC. Not to mention that Jewish orthodox women who wish to sing are harassed, and those who wish to read the Torah, wear mens head coverings, ask for equality etc., have to be protected by the Israeli police.

It can get pretty ugly around the first of each Jewish month when ‘Women at the Wall’ attempt to pray in their own section, hounded by both ultra orthodox men and women. The last thing we need here in Israel is support from Palin, Huckabee, Hagee and a few others running for office. For those of us seeking peace and equality, do us a favor and stay home.

Is She Going to Announce Her Run for Office by the Wailing Wall?

Sarah Palin in Savannah, Georgia, Dec 1, 2008 ...

Sarah 'Wailing Wall' Palin

Because that would be utterly fitting.

Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, is to visit Israel this weekend with her husband Todd as speculation mounts she will announce a bid for the presidency in 2012. The former governor of Alaska, who famously did not acquire a passport until 2006, will be in the Holy Land for just two days — ostensibly on a private trip after she returns from addressing a conference in India, where she will outline her vision for America’s future. But, in between visits to the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and the town of Nazareth, she is due to hold talks with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister and an ideological soul mate.

Sarah, do it at the Wall… It’s ideal… It’s a shame Bibi can’t run with you.

Whatever Happened to Loyalty?

someone random

One of Sarah Palin’s trusted advisers is planning a tell-all memoir, drawing upon thousands of personal e-mails during his time with the former Alaska governor to paint what his agent calls an expose of the inner workings of her operation.  Frank Bailey rose from a campaign volunteer to administration official and figure in the “Troopergate” scandal that fixated the public’s attention during Palin’s vice presidential bid in 2008. A preliminary draft of the unpublished book, tentatively called “Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of our Tumultuous Years,” was leaked to reporters, with excerpts making the rounds on the Internet.

I won’t read it.  I’m not a fan of people who make fast bucks off of the backs of people they formerly supported, aided and abetted.  If this fellow was highly placed and things were done inappropriately, he’s just as guilty as anyone else.  For him to profit from it is unconscionable.

All these ‘kiss and tell’ books are total rubbish.  He may ‘tell all’ but garbage is garbage whether you eat it off a plate or right out of the can.

Bristol Palin: Author (?)

Seriously, what in the world goes on in the minds of people in their teens (yes Bieber, I’m glaring at you) and Palin (!!!) that makes them think their lives are worth memorializing in a memoir or that they’ve experienced sufficient life to have anything worthwhile to say?  Why do they do it? Oh it’s HUBRIS.  That’s why.  Damnable hubris.

Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will soon be able to add “author” to her resume with the release of an as-yet-untitled memoir set to hit bookshelves this summer.  As noted by Political Wire, an Amazon listing for an “Untitled Bristol Palin Memoir” — in hardcover no less — has been created, announcing that the 304-page book will be available for a little over $17.

Might I save you $17 and summarize her life (in my own ‘pre-construction’ of her tome)?

I was a complete unknown in the lower 48 till my mom was chosen by John McCain because he thought she’d be of use on the ticket to be his running mate in ’08.   They lost.  Poor things.  Of course I wasn’t too sad because my dimwit boyfriend Levi and I were doing the nasty at every opportunity.  I got knocked up while my mommy was spouting her family values talk.  I guess I wasn’t listening.  Now I’m raising my baby alone because my baby daddy is busy with his acting career.

After mommy lost her bid to be VP she proved herself a quitter and quit her job as Governor of Alaska.  Ever since then she’s been running for president.  I hope she wins.  I want to raise my baby in the White House.

Oh, and I was on dancing with the stars.  But I only got voted for because the far right tea baggers (that’s what they’re called, right?) called and called and called in for me.

Since I left the show I’ve been working (through a ghost writer) on my book.  I sure hope Oprah reads it.

There.  Send me $10 and you’ll be glad you didn’t spend $7 more.

In Tennessee, Obama Stomps Palin

Sarah Palin at the Time 100 Gala, in Manhattan...

The 2012 Republican nominee!!!! (let's hope).

In polling done recently it seems that even here in Tennessee where nearly everyone is a Republican (at least in the east), if Repubs are silly enough to nominate Palin in 2012, she will be utterly thrashed.

A poll released Monday provides more evidence that Republicans would hamper their chances in the 2012 presidential election were they to choose Sarah Palin as their nominee.  The survey, conducted by Vanderbilt University’s Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, concluded that President Barack Obama would beat Palin in Tennessee in a hypothetical campaign matchup, despite the president’s approval rating of just 44 percent in the state.  Forty-two percent of respondents said they’d vote for Obama, while 37 percent said they’d pick the former Alaska governor, the Tennessean reported on Monday. This, in a state that hasn’t gone for a Democratic presidential candidate since Bill Clinton in 1996 — even though the party’s nominee in 2000, former Vice President Al Gore, called Tennessee his home.

Yes, you read that correctly- Gore wasn’t even supported by his home state- but if Obama faces Palin she would lose.  And as 2012 draws nearer, and she opens her mouth more, there’s more stupidity sure to spew from it and so her chances are likely to decline even more.

Speak on Sarah, speak on!

Is Ronald Reagan Sarah Palin’s Savior?

Sarah Palin in Savannah, Georgia, Dec 1, 2008 ...

Idolater and pagan

It sure sounds like she wants him to be her lord and her god.

America is on a “road to ruin” because of misguided policies in Washington and needs to get back in step with the values of Ronald Reagan, Sarah Palin said at an event honoring the former president’s legacy.

Not only is Palin a quitter, a bad politician, a not too great person, she’s also an idolater worshiping at the altar of Reagan. The fact that she suggests the America is ‘out of step’ with Reagan betrays her as such for a true Christian doesn’t worry about being out of step with a politician, a true Christian is concerned about being out of step with the will of God.

And in spite of how much Palin wishes it were so, Reagan is no god and his ideology not the guidepost by which Christians are called to live.

If America is on the road to ruin it isn’t because it isn’t following Reagan, it’s because it isn’t following God.

Was Sarah Palin Really Threatened?

The logo of the American Broadcasting Company ...

Always Believe Candidates

ABC News reported it- but didn’t bother to check it out.  Instead, they just took the word of Palin’s aides.  That’s not journalism, that’s toady-ism.

ABC’s decision, yesterday, to run a piece titled “Death Threats Against Sarah Palin at ‘Unprecedented Level,’ Aides Say,” based on hearsay from Palin’s aides without any corroborating evidence, is irresponsible at best. Worse yet, U.S. News & World Report picked up on the story today—again, without once questioning the information itself or its source. (ditto for the UPI and the Toronto Star, among others).   …  By repeating the Sarah Palin death-threat meme sans evidence, these major news outlets mislead the public, continue to lower journalistic standards, divert the country from more pressing issues related to the attempted Giffords assassination (gun control, violent rhetoric and its consequences; mental illness) and reward the right-wing bloggers who have been trying nonstop to legitimate this meme, sans evidence, all week long—again, with zero corroborating evidence.

Do you remember when Journalists used to investigate?  Now they just seem to swallow whole whatever they’re told.  How sad.  It’s a sad day for America.

Oh Sarah, Sometimes Speaking Without Thinking is a Very Bad Idea

Sarah Palin at the Time 100 Gala, in Manhattan...

Image via Wikipedia

Because when you do, people, well they do horrible things, like take you seriously!

Well, that didn’t take long. Earlier this afternoon the Wikipedia entry for “blood libel,” the word on the tip of everyone’s tongue today after Sarah Palin’s controversial use of the word, was hacked to include a photo of Palin. The entry was quickly fixed, but not before we took a screengrab of Palin’s photo, used as the entry’s main pictures under the title “Antisemitism.” Palin made headlines today for using the word, typically reserved for discussions of Jewish persecution, in a video she released in response to the shooting rampage in Arizona.

Yes, Sarah, when you speak before you think (especially when you clearly don’t have a clue about the meaning of a phrase you’ve used), people make you pay for it (and they also prove the utter and complete idiocy of Wikipedia because of the ease with which it can be manipulated and information defaced).

Does Sarah Palin Share the Blame for Yesterday’s Arizona Shooting?

It’s a question that falls under the category of the ‘law of unintended consequences’.  When you use a crosshair to ‘target’ congress-people you’re sending a message that normal people may understand quite easily but which the unbalanced may interpret quite violently.

Still, the blame rests squarely on the shoulder of the shooter.  Even if Palin said ‘I think so and so should be taken out’ (which she, and no even remotely sane person would do), the responsibility for violence always resides with the violent.

Shortly after news broke that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) had been shot at a congressional event in her district, observers began noting that she had, during the campaign, literally been Sarah Palin’s target. But a Palin aide is now explaining that it was all a misunderstanding: the infamous image was never meant to evoke guns or violence.  Palin’s “Take Back the 20” campaign (the website has been taken down since the shooting) called on Americans to vote out of office Democrats from conservative districts who had voted for health care reform.  On March 23, she posted an announcement about the campaign on her Facebook page, which was accompanied by an image of her targeted districts. The districts all had crosshairs over them, which are usually associated with gun sights.

I’m no Palin fan to be sure, but she bears no blame here, any more than the Bible can be blamed for the violence done in its name. Violence needs no reason, it only seeks an excuse.

Would Someone Please Tell Sarah Palin that Julian Assange Isn’t an American…

So her whinings that his actions are ‘unamerican‘ are just ill-informed.

“No wonder others are keeping silent about Assange’s antics,” Palin emailed ABC News. “This is what happens when you exercise the First Amendment and speak against his sick, un-American espionage efforts.”

Does anyone see the irony of Palin’s remarks?  She wants her First Amendment rights preserved but she renounces people who want the government held accountable for its misdeeds…  And, by the way, the only reason governments fear the disclosure of the truth is because those governments are tyrannical.  Only deceivers have things they want kept hidden (the only legitimate exceptions being surprise parties and presents and other similar ‘good secrets’).  Things they know are wrong and so must not let get out in the light of public scrutiny.

Open societies of free peoples need not fear facts.  Closed societies of enslaved peoples do, though.
