By which he, and his contemporaries Luther and Calvin, always meant the Muslims. So, he mentions the Turks in a passage in which he describes the sorry state of the Catholic Church, writing
… we have become more shameless in our lives than even the Turks and Jews. For you do not find among them such frequent adultery, so many unscrupulous forms of extortion, such beastly drunkenness, such bold robbery, to say nothing of the arrogance of high and low, of the continual wars, vile blasphemy, obscene talk, lying, cheating, and overreaching. Have we not all had our hands full with trying by hearing or hiring or reading masses to drain this universal swamp of evil? This, I believe, no one will deny, that we have all fled for refuge to the mass, as to a sacred anchor [cf. Heb. 6:9]. Nay, we have gone even to such a pitch of madness as to fancy that we saw a bread that brings salvation.
Interestingly, for Zwingli, the Roman Church’s children are worse than any Muslim! There’s something to think about even now for how often is it the case that the people we often think the worst are actually more moral than ourselves?
More than 100 homes were torched in a Christian enclave of the Pakistani city of Lahore at the weekend by a mob furious at reports of alleged blasphemy, the latest in a series of hate attacks.
Human rights groups and Christian leaders condemned the violence, demanding better protection for the country’s beleaguered minorities. Xavier Williams, president of the Christian pressure group Life for All Pakistan, said: “The religious intolerance has increased to this extent that the people are willing to kill and burn people and properties. The religious minorities are not safe in Pakistan, they are targeted for their faith.” The attack was prompted by the arrest of a Christian man on Friday after he allegedly made blasphemous comments. Police said Imran Shahid, a Muslim, had been drinking with Sawan Masih, a Christian sanitary worker, when a drunken row erupted over religion. Mr Shahid accused his friend of making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad as their argument turned ugly.
Pakistan isn’t the sort of ally the US should be embracing when basic democratic rights are regularly denied to its minority residents.
How lamentable. One would think the Germans had learned their lesson concerning the fomenting of hatred of a particular group of people.
A far-right Islamophobic group in Germany has said it wants to screen the anti-Islamic film that has sparked deadly protests across the Muslim world. The Pro Deutschland Citizens’ Movement has already posted the trailer for Innocence of Muslims, which insults the prophet Muhammad, on its website. Now it says it wants to stage a screening of the film in Berlin. “For us, it’s a question of art and freedom of expression,” Manfred Rouhs, the group’s head, told Der Spiegel magazine.
What a lie. It has nothing to do with art and everything to do with hatred and ignorance.
The authorities are determined to use whatever legal means at their disposal to prevent the move. “Such groups and organisations only want to provoke Germany’s Muslims,” the interior minister, Hans-Peter Friedrich, told the magazine. He accused them of “recklessly pouring oil on the fire”. Ruprecht Polenz, foreign policy expert for the ruling Christian Democrats, has said the authorities should examine whether the film can be banned under a law that forbids religious insults. Speaking to Deutschland Radio on Saturday, Polenz said that Pro Deutschland’s action could endanger Germans abroad. “It is, therefore, absolutely irresponsible.”
Pro Deustchland- just a new name for the old Nazi ideology.
They’ve been having a bit of a row in Germany about circumcision. The government has recently said it’s a no no. Or more precisely, a crime! Naturally, Muslims and Jews are more than a little disgruntled. Ref.ch has the details:
So is circumcision a matter of choice for the child or is it the choice of the parent’s religion?
That’s the question boiling in the German Church, as Reformiert Info reports
So, should a Christian Minister be wed to a Muslim (or an atheist, or a buddhist, or a Taoist)? Ideally, probably not. But it’s not something the German Church has any business butting in about. Or does it?
After all, there is Paul’s ‘do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers’ (2 Cor 6:14) and it has to be admitted that marriage to a person who doesn’t share your Christian faith is marriage to an ‘unbeliever’ in the most precise sense of the term.
Little wonder that the matter is causing an uproar in Germany. She’s already lost her job over her decision. Now let’s see where the Church lands.
Starting today, praying in the streets of Paris is illegal, and Interior Minister Claude Gueant said the ban could soon be extended to the rest of France, particularly to Nice and Marseilles, where “the problem persists,” the Telegraph reports. The “problem” in this case being Muslim worshipers filling the streets during Friday prayers. Gueant says there are two roads in Paris’ Goutte d’Or district where “more than a thousand” people block the streets.
Muslims should be allowed to pray where they need to- as should anyone else. If the French don’t complain when union strikers block the streets why should they when pray-ers do?
France isn’t secular- France is devoted to godlessness. France worships at the altar of unbelief to the god of nothingness.
Judge for yourself the propriety of having a coloring book with images like this aimed to help ‘parents talk with their children’ about the events surrounding 9/11.
Honestly, you have to be a bit sick to think that the death of someone is a proper subject for little kids to color. I can’t blame America’s Muslims for being more than a little offended. I’m offended – probably for some of the same reasons and probably for other reasons.
We Shall Never Forget 9/11: The Kids’ Book of Freedom has just been released by the Missouri-based publisher Really Big Coloring Books, which says it is “designed to be a tool that parents can use to help teach children about the facts surrounding 9/11”. Showing scenes from 9/11 for children to colour in and telling the story of the attacks and the subsequent hunt for Osama bin Laden, “the book was created with honesty, integrity, reverence, respect and does not shy away from the truth”, according to its publisher, which says that it has sold out of its first print run of 10,000 copies.
I’m sure it has sold out. In America, even the most horrific events can be turned into profit.
A 14-year-old girl in western Uganda is still unable to walk 10 months after her father tortured her for leaving Islam and putting her faith in Christ, according to area Christians. Susan Ithungu of Isango village, Kasese district, has been hospitalized at Kagando Hospital since October 2010 after neighbors with police help rescued her from her father, Beya Baluku. He was arrested shortly afterward but quickly released, sources said.
Anyone know of any Christians who torture their children if they convert to Islam?
In August 2009, ten people died, eight burnt alive. Four churches were destroyed. Threats against Christian witnesses force them to flee to avoid further violence. Muslim leader says Christians “deserve” to be murdered. Catholic priest wonders whether minorities will ever have justice.
Acquitted murderers. Further-
A Pakistani anti-terrorism court acquitted 70 people who, in various roles, were involved in the Gojra massacre of August 2009 (see Fareed Khan, “Eight Christians burned alive in Punjab,” in AsiaNews, 2 August 2009). The anti-Christian violence broke out following blasphemy allegations. During a wedding, a group of Christians supposedly burnt pages of the Qur‘an, a pretext used to strike at the religious minority. During the attack by hundreds of extremists (brought in by bus and trucks), ten people died, eight burnt alive. Four churches and various homes were also set on fire. Following the Gojra attack, instead of arresting the culprits, police, twisting the facts, took into custody a number of Christians for attacking the “other group”. The unjustly jailed Christians were eventually released but after several months.
Pretty country, wicked government
There would be rioting across the Muslim world if what the Malaysian government did to the Qur’an what it evidently did to 5000 copies of the Bible.
Malaysia’s main Christian grouping accused the government Thursday of desecrating 5,000 imported Bibles seized by custom authorities in this Muslim-majority country. The accusation aggravates a dispute over the distribution of Malay-language Bibles containing the word “Allah” as a translation for God. The government has banned the use of “Allah” in non-Muslim texts, saying it could confuse Muslims or even be used to convert them. The dispute has caused authorities to hold 5,000 Indonesian-made Bibles at a Malaysian port since March 2009. The Prime Minister’s Department agreed earlier this week to release those Bibles as well as 30,000 others at another port on Borneo island. However, Christian leaders said the 5,000 Bibles have been stamped with serial numbers, government seals and warnings that the books are meant for Christians only. “The Christian community in Malaysia is deeply hurt that the government has desecrated and defaced the Bible,” the Christian Federation of Malaysia, which represents most of the country’s churches, said in a statement.
It’s just such a senseless, pointless, and malicious deed. Shame on Malaysia’s government.

And that’s exactly the way it always happens. A rabid crowd starts yelling ‘we don’t want your kind (or your center) here’ and before long one of the lunatics in the rabid crowd decides that since it’s ok to verbalize hatred, it’s also ok to physicalize it.
A man has been arrested on charges he repeatedly stabbed a New York City cab driver after asking the driver if he was Muslim and the driver said yes. Police arrested Michael Enright Tuesday night on charges including attempted murder as a hate crime. He was expected to appear in court in Manhattan on Wednesday. Police say the 21-year-old suspect from suburban Brewster, N.Y., was drunk when he hailed the cab on Manhattan’s East Side. Police say he attacked the driver with a folding knife before jumping out a rear window. An officer found Enright slumped on the sidewalk and arrested him. The driver was treated for multiple lacerations.
This kind of thing just cannot be tolerated in America. It can’t. It isn’t Christian, and it isn’t even American. The perpetrator should be charged with attempted murder for the assault and then tried for it and hate crimes. Furthermore, Christians must denounce this (even those Christians who consider themselves adherents of the Tea People). Those who don’t, take part in fueling the hatred just as much as those Imams who remain silent in the face of violence fuel radical Muslim violence.
So, now we’ll see where the hearts of Tea People lie: in decency or on the side of violence.
