Via, with much, much more, which do read.
Guess he didn’t mind the cold: A naked man sat on the statue of a 19th-century prince in downtown London yesterday, striking poses and waving his arms around while police tried to coax him down, the Telegraph reports. Police also closed off a street near Trafalgar Square to traffic and a gathering crowd. At one point the man stood on the head of the statue—of Prince George, the first Duke of Cambridge—and then sat on George’s head.
He finally came down after about three hours and was taken away by police under the Mental Health Act, the BBC reports. “I just laughed,” said a woman visiting from the US. “It’s an experience.” But the owner of a pub complained that business owners lost money when police cordoned off the road; he also wondered why “one naked man” required eight police cars, two fire trucks, and four mounted police.
Terrible Chris, really terrible. And after making such a good impression here in the States. What will we do with you?
Forget the Republican multi-day infomercial and take a break from the thieves at the local gas station taking advantage of a bit of rain and wind and enjoy the best story of the day from our friends at NPR-
On a placid summer morning last month, before the Virginia heat could hit them, a former U.S. Marine and his partner lifted their rowing scull into the glassy water of the Rivanna River, near Charlottesville. “First thing I do is take these legs off,” said Rob Jones, who like his rowing partner, Oksana Masters, is a double, above-the-knee amputee. They’re the U.S. team for mixed-doubles rowing at the 2012 London Paralympics, which started Wednesday. They sit, take off their legs on the dock, balance on their torsos, lift, twist and gently drop the boat in. Then they put on special rowing legs and start a grueling workout.
God bless them – all the paralympians.
No, not in some backwater third world hovel filled with tree worshiping pagans, but in Britain!
Kristy Bamu, a teenage boy, was tortured and drowned because a relative believed he was a witch, the Old Bailey heard today. Kristy, 15, was in such pain after days of being attacked with sticks, a metal bar, hammer and chisel that he begged to die, jurors heard. His brother-in-law Eric Bikubi was joined by his partner, Kristy’s sister Magalie, in the horror, said Brian Altman QC, prosecuting. And his other siblings were forced to join in before they were all placed in the bath to be hosed down in cold water with a shower head by Bikubi on Christmas Day, 2010. ”It was only when he realised that Kristy was not moving that he stopped what he was doing and pulled him from the water. By then it was too late,” said Mr Altman.
Blind barbarous fools.
Evangelical evil, and nothing less-
At least three people in London with HIV have died after they stopped taking life saving drugs on the advice of their Evangelical Christian pastors. The women died after attending churches in London where they were encouraged to stop taking the antiretroviral drugs in the belief that God would heal them, their friends and a leading HIV doctor said.
Responding to the BBC London investigation, Lord Fowler, the former health minister responsible for the famous Aids awareness campaign of the 1980s, condemned the practice. “It’s just wrong, bad advice that should be confronted,” said the Tory peer, who chaired last month’s House of Lords committee into HIV.
There’s simply no excuse for such advice. God gave us brains to use and physicians too.
What Daniella will do between classes
This is really absurd and unjust.
A teenage girl caught with £800 of crack cocaine and heroin in her bra has been freed from prison 15 months early so she can go to university in time for freshers’ week.
Does that mean that everyone else caught and convicted should get out early too so they can go walk their dog or visit their ailing parents or go on vacation? She’s been given special treatment and special treatment isn’t justice. It’s the very definition of injustice.
Daniella Jade Lewis was jailed for 18 months at Salisbury Crown Court in on June 10 this year after being caught with the class A drugs in her underwear in Winchester, Hants. But after just three months of her sentence, the 19-year-old was freed last Friday after telling London’s Appeal Court that she had won a place at the University of Middlesex and would lose out if she remained in prison.
She should have thought of that before she decided to be a druggie. But I guess it doesn’t matter- she’s out and she’s learned a valuable lesson: she’s not responsible for her actions and if she has an excuse, she can get out of the penalty for her misdeeds.
Middlesex should revoke her placement and the judge should toss her back to serve her sentence.
And the Germans won’t tolerate the widespread violence that plagued Britain. They’re used to fringe loons doing stupid things and they know how to deal with them. And it isn’t with a velvet glove of ‘oh the poor dears just have it so hard let’s accommodate their every wish’.
Three nights of arson attacks on cars in Berlin have left Germans worrying that their capital may be on the brink of its own form of copycat violence that ignited London and quickly spilled over into other UK cities this month. While Angela Merkel, the chancellor, said she “hoped” and was “somewhat confident” that Germany would be “spared events like we have recently seen in London and other cities”, other politicians worried that the lure of media attention could dash such expectations.
And then the Polizei will see to them. And that – as they say – will be that.
The Telegraph has a really engaging essay from first hand of the London riots.
A police officer, whose anonymous blog has captivated thousands, tells of his shock, exhaustion and terror after confronting the mob. I have worked every night and every day this week. Since last Saturday, when I was on the streets of Tottenham in north London in the early hours as rioting and looting broke out, through to the early hours of yesterday morning. I have clocked up around 125 hours, too many of them being pelted by stones, petrol bombs and, in one case, in the chaos of it all, by a 4ft ornamental palm tree.
Do read it all. My one reservation is that the author is an anonymous officer. I hope he doesn’t turn out to be a fraud like Damascus Lesbian Girl did. Now and forever all anonymity online implies fraud at some level in my estimation.
They’re all looters during the recent London riots!
Among those arrested are a straight-A Exeter University student whose family wealth makes it unlikely she would loot out of necessity, and a 24-year-old college graduate and aspiring social worker whose mother said, “She didn’t want a TV. She doesn’t even know why she took it,” according to The Daily Mail.
Then she’s just an easily led by the nose mob follower isn’t she mom.
Daniel Knowles at The Telegraph argues that, “Many of these criminals are no different from [liberal politician] Nick Clegg, who at the age of 16 narrowly escaped a conviction in Germany for setting fire to a professor’s cactus collection for a ‘drunken lark.’ Or, for that matter, from the Bullingdon Club, of which David Cameron and [London Mayor] Boris Johnson were members, which goes around smashing up restaurants.
Oh come on Knowles, bad behavior by old folk is no excuse for bad behavior by young folk. Stop making excuses for wickedness and depravity. That’s the problem; people aren’t held responsible.
What the heck?
In Toxteth, a Catholic priest has been arrested for giving directions to looting youths telling them that, “there is a massive range of hi-tech goods and trainers a mile down the road at the local abortion clinic, now go get them.”
As if the ends justify the means. Do they not teach ethics in Catholic Seminaries??????
Via Stuart on the google +
Take a look at some of the little miscreants looting, burning, and destroying across Britain. Michael Acidri remarks on FB-
It’s interesting what some youth worker said on tv recently. He saw some youths who attended his church being involved in questionable activity. Guess some youth pastors have got some ‘Splaining to do!
Such youths have learned nothing of Christianity if they have participated in these disgusting activities.
And again, WHERE ARE THEIR PARENTS?
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast urged the British police to exercise restraint against protesters. Mehman-Parast asked the British government to start dialogue with the protesters and to listen to their demands in order to calm the situation down. He also called on the independent human rights organizations to investigate the killing in order to protect the civil rights and civil liberties.
Really, Iran? You have ZERO credibility when it comes to urging ANYONE to act decently given what you’ve done to repress your own population over the decades. So I think I speak for all when I say, shut up.
The very latest news is here on the BBC. Shockingly, rioting has spread to Nottingham, Liverpool, and Bristol.
What insanity. I appreciate the remarks of this MP-
LibDem MP Lynne Featherstone blogs about a Night of Shame: There can be no justifications and nowhere to hide from such behaviour. We all need to stand together on this and condemn all those who perpetrated these acts. No ifs – no buts.
The riots and pillaging have gone from sickening to abhorrent to downright perversity. The Telegraph reports
People were forced to leap from the upstairs windows of a burning building in Croydon last night as rioting spread across London and beyond. On the third consecutive night of violence and looting, hordes of balaclava-clad yobs stormed shops, setting fire to businesses indiscriminately.
As police fought running battles with mobs of rioters – many of them teenagers – detectives were also called to investigate a shooting incident. A Metropolitan Police source said the incident was believed to be “non-fatal”.
Among the casualties of the arson attacks was a furniture store that has stood for nearly 150 years in the south London borough. Reeves, a family run business established in 1867, was engulfed in flames sending smoke billowing across the London skyline. As the blaze raged out of control, the store’s owner Trevor Reeves said: “It’s just completely destroyed. Words fail me.
It’s just gone, it’s five generations. My father is distraught. It’s just mindless thuggery.”
I weep for that beautiful city. And I pray God brings justice and judgment down on the heads of the mobs.
Britain’s biggest police force is facing criticism after it let looters run riot in north London for almost 12 hours, in some of the worst scenes of street disturbances seen in recent years.
The Metropolitan Police said it was focused on containing violent disorder in Tottenham on Saturday night, which left dozens of officers injured and saw squad cars, shops and flats burned to the ground. But its tactics meant gangs of youths were free to break into stores at nearby Tottenham Hale retail park and in Wood Green, with looters forming an orderly queue in broad daylight to steal from a sports shop. Riot police did not intervene to stop the looting in some areas until 7.30am the following morning, almost 12 hours after the riots began, and last night there were fresh disturbances in Enfield.
Are they kidding? Are the incapable of preserving property and life at the same time??? Are they incompetent? The whole nasty thing is an outrageous display of depravity; both on the part of the hoodlums and thugs and on the part of the inept police.
And London is hosting the Olympics? I wouldn’t go had I tickets. If the police let teen scum rum riot they won’t be able to stop determined terrorists.
A former British Baptist pastor was sentenced July 22 to eight years in prison for sexually abusing two boys while visiting a family friend in the United States. Robert Dando, former senior minister at Worcester Park Baptist Church in suburban London, pleaded guilty last November to four counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim under 13. The charges stemmed from allegations that he began fondling the boys when they were 7 and 8 and continued the abuse over the course of five years. Dando was arrested last July in Oakton, Va., after one of the alleged victims came forward in December at age 21, and further investigation revealed similar allegations by a 17-year-old. Dando, 47, will serve his sentence in the U.S. Since his arrest he has been held without bond at the Fairfax County Detention Center. He was originally scheduled for sentencing in January, but the hearing was postponed after his lawyer requested a psychiatric evaluation for his client. After his arrest Dando resigned as pastor of Worcester Park Baptist Church after three years. He was removed from membership of Boys’ Brigade, a Christian youth organization in which his wife was a vice president.
I wonder if these reprehensible and disgusting pedophiles ever bother reading the New Testament. In particular, I think they might want to note this passage:
(Mar 9:42-48).
Yes, I think they should take it literally.
Like these two very evil teens did:
Two boys have been charged with the murder of a teenager stabbed in the neck in south-east London. Yemurai Kanyangarara, 16, was attacked seconds after getting off a 96 bus in Upper Wickham Lane in Welling on Friday. The youths, aged 15 and 14, will appear at Camberwell Youth Court on Thursday. Yemurai, who went to St Columba’s Catholic Boys’ School, Bexleyheath, had moved to Leicester to avoid violence. He had just finished his GCSEs and came to the UK from Zimbabwe as a toddler. He had been living with his father in Leicester, after concerns over violence in the capital, and had come to London only to sit his exams, his friends said.
So disgusting. So horrific. So very worthy of punishment.
Did you know that
Today in 1753, the British Museum was established. The British Museum’s collection of over seven million objects represents the rich history of human cultures. The collections are amongst the largest and most comprehensive in the world and originate from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.
That according to Europeana.eu (on FB). Happy birthday to one of the world’s most excellent museums (and my very favorite).
A man has been remanded in custody charged with two counts of attempted murder following the shooting of a five-year-old girl in a convenience store. Anthony McCalla, 19, of Oakdale Road, Streatham, will appear next at the Old Bailey on June 10. He appeared at Camberwell Green magistrates’ court, in south London, charged with shooting Thusha Kamaleswaran, aged five, and bystander Roshan Selvakumar at a shop in Stockwell. McCalla, wearing a brown and white striped top and blue jeans, listened intently during the 15-minute hearing and spoke to give his name, address and date of birth. District Judge Sue Green refused an application for bail. Police have also arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shootings. Relatives are maintaining vigils at Thusha’s hospital bedside while detectives build up a “continuity trail” of the attackers’ movements.
What kind of person but one evilly depraved shoots a 5 year old?
