With lawmakers still at an impasse over increasing the debt ceiling, a special team of 40 eighth-grade civics teachers was air-dropped into Washington earlier today in a last-ditch effort to teach congressional leaders how the government’s legislative process works. “We started them off with the basics, like the difference between a senator and a representative, and then moved on to more complex concepts, like what a resolution is,” Bozeman, MT social studies teacher Heidi Rossmiller told reporters as all 535 members of Congress copied down the definition of “checks and balances” from a whiteboard in the House chamber. “It’s been a bit of an uphill battle, since most of them seemed to have no real sense of how or why a bill is passed, and Sen. [Harry] Reid [D-NV] had to come up to me during a break and ask, ‘Ms. Rossmiller, what happens if Congress can’t reach a compromise?’ But hopefully it will all start to sink in soon.” At press time, an unruly House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) had noisily stormed out of a lecture on bipartisan cooperation, claiming it was “too hard.”
Oh The Onion… if only it were true, maybe the imbeciles in Washington might act right.
And so we see another demonstration of the entrenched perversity of Washington, DC.
Dismissing President Barack Obama’s opposition to earmarks as “an applause line,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told NBC News on Wednesday that the president should “back off” and let lawmakers continue to direct spending to their home districts. Asked during a one-on-one interview with NBC whether Obama was wrong to promise a veto on any bill that contains earmarks, Reid quickly replied, “of course.”
Politicians and their dirtbaggery- and you and I get to pay for it so they can be re-elected because their unthinking constituents are glad they got a new bridge thanks to people who don’t even live where they do.
Corruption rules Washington. No wonder DC likes Karzai so much- he’s their mirror image.
A spokesman for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says Reid’s Hispanic press secretary in Nevada is no longer with the office amid a news report accusing her of a fake marriage to help a man evade immigration laws. Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement Monday night that the conduct allegedly committed by Diana Tejada was “clearly wrong.” But he called the Fox News report a “desperation measure” by Republicans trying to gain an advantage in a tight Senate campaign.
How precious is that? The Majority Leader of the Senate’s press secretary helped someone break the law… It’s both totally depraved and totally predictable. Politicians (and those around them) always behave as though the laws they pass apply to everyone but themselves.
The Fox News report says the 28-year-old Tejada lied to authorities to cover up her marriage to 37-year-old Bassam Mahmoud Tarhini. But the report says Tejada was never charged with a crime.
Why would she be? It’s ok for those connected with making the law to break it…
Not because I care anything about the Tea Party, because I don’t. But I honestly hope that each and every single incumbent in the country who’s running loses. I don’t mind if they’re defeated by the Green Party or the Tea Party or the Coffee Party or the Whale Party or the Chicken Eaters Party or the TV Party or even the Biblioblogging Party (and what a party that is). As long as every Democrat and every Republican and every Independent loses.
The stakes are high for Democratic Sen. Harry Reid and his GOP tea party-backed challenger, Sharron Angle, as they prepare to face off Thursday night in their one and only debate. The race, in which an unseasoned candidate is aiming to take down the Senate majority leader, is one of the most watched this election season. A poll released Thursday shows it’s tight — Angle leads Reid 47 percent to 45 percent, with 4 percent undecided. Angle’s lead is within the poll’s margin of error.
Could the fringe folk do worse than the feckless dimwits occupying office now? Could they possibly lie more or pander to big business more or submit to the will of lobbyists more? Could they possible do a worse job of running the country? No. How could they? The entire government from the county level to the US Congress (House and Senate) are run by self serving buffoons. They all, each and every single one of the spineless toadies, need to be booted out of office. And I hope they are.
All those people who complain about the ineptitude of the government and then continue to return to office the very people who have proven themselves inept, deserve exactly the ineptitude they’re served up. Vote them out. You’ve got nothing to lose but a sorry politician.
