The wonderfully learned and immensely friendly James ‘Jim’ Aitken of Cambridge University and world renowned Septuagintalist died peacefully overnight after suffering his second massive heart attack and a short stay in the hospital.
James authored and edited numerous books and authored many articles and journal entries, and was a dear friend and colleague. We met annually at SBL for breakfast for many years and spent time in wonderful conversation at SOTS on a number of occasions.
His Septuagint scholarship is unsurpassed. And so is his authenticity as a scholar and a friend.
He is already sorely missed. May he rest in peace everlasting.
