From the SOTS Secretary
With great sadness I write to you for the second time today with news that a former President of the Society, Prof Joseph Blenkinsopp, died about 5.00am this morning (26th March).
He had been a member since 1963 and served as President in 2000. Despite being resident in the USA, Joe was a regular attender at SOTS meetings, sometimes accompanied by his wife, until recent times and he remained a prolific author.
The news has been received from Jo’s wife, Jean Porter, via our Secretary. Jean indicates that an obituary and details about the funeral service will be forwarded when they are available and I will circulate these in due course. May he rest in peace.
All good wishes,
Joe was a congenial and lovely man whose work on Isaiah was epoch-making. He was a charming conversationalist and friendly face at CBA annual meetings and on the rare occasions he was able to attend SOTS in recent years. His wit and wisdom will be sorely, sorely missed.
Rest in peace, good sir.
