Declaring our Independence

When the government engages in a long series of abuses & usurpations & demonstrates a design to reduce the people to serve under despotism, it is the right of the people – no, it is their duty – to throw off that government.

A Warning To Those Who Would Kill: You Will Hang on The Gallows You Make

We have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have held my tongue, although the enemy could never compensate for the king’s loss.

So King Ahasuerus answered and said to Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is he, who would dare presume in his heart to do such a thing?”   And Esther said, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman!” So Haman was terrified before the king and queen.  Then the king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman stood before Queen Esther, pleading for his life, for he saw that evil was determined against him by the king. When the king returned from the palace garden to the place of the banquet of wine, Haman had fallen across the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he also assault the queen while I am in the house?” As the word left the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

Now Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, said to the king, “Look! The gallows, fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai, who spoke good on the king’s behalf, is standing at the house of Haman.” Then the king said, “Hang him on it!” So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath subsided.  — (Est. 7:4-10)

You can read many, MANY more here.  And you should.  Especially if you’re the historically ignorant sort that constantly drones on in generalities about how ‘The Germans’ just went along with Hitler and how Luther and Lutherans were to blame.

If Only We Lived in a World Where This Were Really Our Practice

Alas.  We don’t.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.  — (Phil. 2:3-4)

The Pittsburgh Terrorist Actually Believes He’s a Christian!

How deluded can you be?  Here we have a perfect example of the fact that Satan can quote Scripture out of context too…

Signs of the Times

And that’s why the Pittsburgh terrorist and the pipe bomb terrorist (I refuse to name them) are ‘deranged’ or ‘mentally ill’ and not what they are- terrorists.  Evil, sickening, terrorists.

Lecture Announcement

Why ‘Hell Houses’ Have no Place in Christianity: An Essay by Timothy George

He observes

hellIt may be that some young people will find their way to genuine faith through such ghoulish shenanigans, but their overall import is a distortion of the Gospel. Those who indulge in such displays are taking something serious, eternal, and consequential and treating it with a finesse of a butcher doing brain surgery. In the process, they trivialize evil and domesticate grace. I seriously doubt that the Old Fiend himself is much upset about how his wiles are portrayed in such faux-dramas. He knows that conversion without discipleship is not likely to be lasting or deep. He is well aware that evangelism as entertainment seldom, if ever, results in genuine repentance or transformation.

Luther: On Idolatry

Portrait of Martin Luther as an Augustinian Monk

Many a one thinks that he has God and everything in abundance when he has money and possessions; he trusts in them and boasts of them with such firmness and assurance as to care for no one. Lo, such a man also has a god, Mammon by name, i.e., money and possessions, on which he sets all his heart, and which is also the most common idol on earth. He who has money and possessions feels secure, and is joyful and undismayed as though he were sitting in the midst of Paradise. On the other hand, he who has none doubts and is despondent, as though he knew of no God. For very few are to be found who are of good cheer, and who neither mourn nor complain if they have not Mammon. This [care and desire for money] sticks and clings to our nature, even to the grave. — Martin Luther
