Two things happened to me at age 9 that have left an indelible mark and they explain my complete contempt for those who perpetrate sexual assault.
First, on the way to school one day, a red truck, with a camper, pulled up beside me on the street. An old white man rolled down the window, leaned out, and asked if I wanted a ride. I was scared to death so I said no, and ran off.
When I got home I told my dad what had happened. The next day, when I got home from school, men from the FBI were in the living room and they asked me questions about the man and the truck. I answered as best I could and they showed me some pictures and asked if I recognized the man. I did, pointed to him, and said it was him.
They told me and my dad that it was a good thing that I hadn’t gotten in the truck. He had taken other little boys and had hurt them.
The second thing that happened when I was 9, and I remember I was 9 because we lived in California until I started the 5th grade, when we moved to Phoenix, and these two things happened in California. Anyway, and I won’t go into detail this time, the other thing that happened when I was 9 was that a 16 year old neighbor boy stayed the night one night with my brother and I. We slept in bunk beds and he had to bunk with one of us so he bunked with me. And molested me. My mother walked in when she heard me, turned the light on, saw him in flagrante, turned the light off, and walked out without saying a word.
The presumption that people can’t remember, vividly, things that happened to them decades before is false. I remember every detail of both of those events. I can’t tell you my address. I can’t tell you the houses or neighbors around us. But those two things I will never forget. And those who enabled and who effected those events will forever be held by me in utter contempt.
I thought, in the present atmosphere, it was important I tell you these things. Violent, terrible things happen to children and adults, boys and girls, men and women, every day in our country. So when someone tells me that it happened to them, I believe them. Because it happened. To me. Too.
Americans, in spite of any of their protestations to the contrary, have no interest in God. So God has left Americans to their own devices. We see the results all around us.
Don’t believe it? Ponder this:
Trust in the LORD and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act, making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday. Be silent before the LORD and wait expectantly for him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the person who carries out evil plans. Refrain from anger and give up your rage; do not be agitated– it can only bring harm. For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who put their hope in the LORD will inherit the land. – (Ps. 37:3-9)
Americans, particularly American Christians, don’t trust in the Lord, they trust their guns and their military. They don’t take delight in the Lord, they delight in sports. They don’t commit their way to the Lord, the ignore him in their every plan. They aren’t silent. They do not wait for his guidance. And they don’t refrain from anger. If attacked, they retaliate, violently.
No, let’s be honest, Americans might talk a good game, but God is as far from their real lives as possible. ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.’ And that’s why America has become the country it has become.
In an emergency, overnight referendum, the American people voted on Thursday to replace the United States Senate with a room full of monkeys throwing feces. The measure passed with 57% of the vote. 22% of voters thought the Senate should be replaced by barking seals, while 17% voted that the replacement should be the pit of venomous snakes from Indiana Jones. 3.97% voted that Senate members be replaced by screaming goats. “About 100 people” voted for the current Senators to keep their jobs, with this tiny voting bloc centered in Washington, D.C.Highland Ape Rescue out of West Virginia will be teaming up with Cornwell Primate farms to supply hundreds of monkeys and apes to the Senate. The animals will be fed a nutritious mixture of foods that produce easily throwable feces. Protective glass will be put up around the Senate for camera crews to safely film, but anyone being interviewed by the new senators will have to sit in the middle of the poo-flinging octagon, coming under a heavy barrage of projectile excrement.
“It will be a huge improvement from how things were before,” said ape trainer, Marlena Henwick. “No more 10-12 hour hearings. With these monkeys, all the fecal projectiles will have been flung in under 30 minutes. One and done.”
The recently replaced senators will be placed on display at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. for families to park attendees to observe and zoologists to study.
And the House, and the White House.
The SBC Just Achieved Peak Absurdity: Paige Patterson and Richard Land Will Co-Teach A Course… on… Morality….
Peak absurdity. Via twitter-
@JonathanMerritt — I’ve gotten several credible reports that Land, who lost his @ERLC job due to racist comments, plans to co-teach a class on Christian morality with Paige Patterson, who lost his job for misogynist comments and actions.
And speaking of Land- he published this-
Peak. Absurdity. Of course Land believes a liar. Of course he does. He is one.
I have the September 2018 carnival (Due October 1). So if you see something on the blogs about biblical studies and related fields, pass them along. Especially if they are from a blog that is little known. Let’s get the word out about blogs people should be reading.
Time is up. Send along those suggestions by tomorrow.
Until then it is my abiding belief that, in my ‘humble’ view, there’s nothing more uncharitable than silent charity in the presence of evil.
So, as I’ve mentioned before, when I die I’ll be shuffled off to the body farm. Today I and other body givers were invited over for I guess what you would call pre-death biometric measurements. It was fantastic! I almost can’t wait to die so they can experiment on me!
I wasn’t allowed to take photos everywhere, but here are those I was able to snap-
two things stand out- no one in the senate deserves to be there and he is an ill tempered man who is clearly undeserving of a lifetime appointment to anything. he cant control himself under pressure.
i was ashamed of everyone involved.
Although Luther had often preached on the Festival of St. Michael and All Angels, he had usually taken up the appointed Gospel, Matt. 18:1–11, as his text. Only three times—on St. Michael’s day in 1534 and 1537, in addition to the present 1544 sermon—did Luther take up the appointed Epistle, and indeed those three sermons constitute the sum of Luther’s preaching on the Revelation of St. John. – Luther’s Works: Sermons V, ed. Christopher Boyd Brown, trans. Matt Lundin, vol. 58, 171.
“It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life. The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son. But the cowards, faithless, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars– their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Rev. 21:6-8)
I love to watch the universalists twist themselves into a pretzel trying to explain how verse 8 doesn’t mean what it says so plainly. It is hilarious.
