In appearance and words you simulate modesty, but you are so swollen with haughtiness, arrogance, pride, malice, villainy, rashness, superciliousness, ignorance, and stupidity that there is nothing to surpass you. — Martin Luther

We live in sick and sickening times because sex has been de-sacralized, taken out of the realm of marriage, and lauded and practiced by vast swaths of the populace with the casualness of dogs roaming the streets and taking a partner of any that stroll past. Sex has become, especially for the young, a mere biological function without meaning or honor. and our godless, sex crazed, depraved society is now reaping the consequences of that attitude towards sex.
The lying liars told us there was no slippery slope of immorality. They lied, many believed the lie, and now men cannot relate to women without supervision and women cannot trust men.
Perhaps we should have taken our morality seriously. But it’s too late now.
The LORD said, “Jeremiah, don’t ask me to help these people. Jer 14:11
Ignoring the dictum that if one is not of the left as a young person one has no heart, and not of the right in middle age one has no head, I have always been a conservative. I voted Republican most of the time, affiliated with the GOP, and served proudly as a political appointee under two Republican presidents. I bitterly opposed Donald Trump’s candidacy and dropped my Republican affiliation once he won in 2016, figuring that the party would soon fall in line. I said as much in public, and my predictions were borne out. But it is only now that I have concluded that the break between conservative beliefs and the party that claimed to uphold them is complete and irreversible.
Read Professor Cohen’s essay in the Atlantic. He’s right on the mark. The GOP is no longer the party of Conservatism. And it never will be again.
If there is anything of which you are ignorant, if you have any doubt about Scripture, ask one whose life commends him, whose age puts him above suspicion, whose reputation does not belie him. … Or if there should be none such able to explain, it is better to avoid danger at the price of ignorance than to court it for the sake of learning. — St Jerome
And that’s a gem!
Amen and amen, good St. Jerome!
When you go a short way into the country, do not leave your daughter behind you. Leave her no power or capacity of living without you, and let her feel frightened when she is left to herself. Let her not converse with people of the world or associate with virgins indifferent to their vows.
Let her not be present at the weddings of your slaves and let her take no part in the noisy games of the household.
As regards the use of the bath, I know that some are content with saying that a Christian virgin should not bathe along with eunuchs or with married women, with the former because they are still men at all events in mind, and with the latter because women with child offer a revolting spectacle.
For myself, however, I wholly disapprove of baths for a virgin of full age. Such an one should blush and feel overcome at the idea of seeing herself undressed. By vigils and fasts she mortifies her body and brings it into subjection. By a cold chastity she seeks to put out the flame of lust and to quench the hot desires of youth. And by a deliberate squalor she makes haste to spoil her natural good looks. Why, then, should she add fuel to a sleeping fire by taking baths?
See? It’s stuff like that which endears Jerome to my Jerome-esque heart.
You are indignant with me because I have merely silenced Jovinian and not instructed him. You, do I say? Nay, rather, they who grieve to hear him anathematized, and who impeach their own pretended orthodoxy by eulogizing in another the heresy which they hold themselves.1
I should have asked him, forsooth, to surrender peaceably! I had no right to disregard his struggles and to drag him against his will into the bonds of truth!2
I might use such language had the desire of victory induced me to say anything counter to the rule laid down in Scripture, and had I taken the line—so often adopted by strong men in controversy—of justifying the means by the result.
As it is, however, I have been an exponent of the apostle rather than a dogmatist on my own account; and my function has been simply that of a commentator.3
Anything, therefore, which seems a hard saying should be imputed to the writer expounded by me rather than to me the expounder; unless, indeed, he spoke otherwise than he is represented to have done, and I have by an unfair interpretation wrested the plain meaning of his words. If any one charges me with this disingenuousness let him prove his charge from the Scriptures themselves.4 — St. Jerome
1Jerome means here that normally those most vocal in their defense of heresy are themselves usually adherents of heretical beliefs.
2Jerome was familiar with the genre of sarcasm and employs it here.
3Here Jerome appeals to his office as exegete and teacher of the Church.
4If there is any miscommunication, Jerome asserts, it is the fault of those on the other side of the issue. He has been clear as crystal and has Scripture on his side.
Your Government Is Evil: Hundreds of Migrant Children Quietly Moved to a Tent Camp on the Texas Border
In shelters from Kansas to New York, hundreds of migrant children have been roused in the middle of the night in recent weeks and loaded onto buses with backpacks and snacks for a cross-country journey to their new home: a barren tent city on a sprawling patch of desert in South Texas.
Until now, most undocumented children being held by federal immigration authorities had been housed in private foster homes or shelters, sleeping two or three to a room. They received formal schooling and regular visits with legal representatives assigned to their immigration cases.
But in the rows of sand-colored tents in Tornillo, Tex., children in groups of 20, separated by gender, sleep lined up in bunks. There is no school: The children are given workbooks that they have no obligation to complete. Access to legal services is limited.
Read the rest and then let your representatives know how evil this is.
I read that and thought right off of the folk who cite Strong’s concordance in an attempt to persuade others of their linguistic skills. They ‘know’ enough Hebrew and Greek to make the person who knows neither think they are a scholar of both.
I love Jerome. A straight-talker if ever there were one.
When God formed man out of slime, and through the grace of His own inspiration gave him a soul, had that soul previously existed and subsisted which was afterwards bestowed by the inspiration of God, and where was it? or did it gain its capacity both to exist and to live from the power of God, on the sixth day, when the body was formed out of the slime?
You are silent regarding this, and pretend you do not know what is wanted, and busy yourself with irrelevant questions. You leave Origen untouched, and rave against the absurdities of Marcion, Apollinaris, Eunomius, Manichæus, and the other heretics. You are asked for a hand and you put out a foot, and all the while covertly insinuate the doctrine to which you hold. You speak smooth things to plain men like us, but in such a way as in no degree to displease those of your own party.
Evasion. It’s what the heretics love.
Wishing you a blessed feast day of Saint Jerome, our patron saint. Saint Jerome is a Doctor of the Church and the Patron Saint of Scholars and in particular of the Catholic Biblical Association. He was born in 331 AD in what is now known as Croatia and eventually lived the last 30 years of his life in a cave in Bethlehem, dying in 420. Arguably, his most famous line is “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ” which occurred in his commentary on Isaiah. His learning was a way of purification for him. He is most famous for his translation of the Scriptures in Latin (the Vulgate).
May the Lord richly bless all our endeavors and keep us faithful. May our work help in the building up of His kingdom.
Amen and amen. I love Jerome. Happy Jerome day to one and all.
The greatest error of modern Christianity was the abandonment of the serious practice of Church discipline. Had it been maintained, fraudulent believers wouldn’t be the cancer on the body of Christ that they presently are.
’You shall know them by their fruits’. – Jesus
Honestly, friends, if you can’t tell the difference between real Christians and wolves in sheep’s clothing like Falwell and Metaxas and Jeffress and Graham, you really don’t know anything about Christianity at all.
If you need help, read Matthew 25. If that doesn’t clear it up for you, just email and I’ll lend a hand.

How do I know they are false teachers? Scripture teaches me so. Which?
“It was not I who sent or commanded them, and they are of no benefit at all to these people “– this is the LORD ‘s declaration. (Jer. 23:32)
There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them. They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep. (2 Pet. 2:1-3)
If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, a curse be on him! (Gal. 1:9)
The only thing the 4 above proclaim is the message of Trump. They are heretics. And they are damned.
