Away With Those Oppressive ‘One Way’ Signs!

A violent, angry mob of progressive activists began to go on a rampage throughout New York City Tuesday, tearing down hundreds of street signs with oppressive messages like “One Way.

Representatives for the protesters claim they are advocating for a more tolerant, relativistic system of traffic control, wherein driving whichever direction best expresses your intersectional identity is finally accepted by society.

“Who are you to say there’s only one way!?” they screamed as cars instantly began to careen into one another in flurry of burnt rubber and shattered glass behind them. “All ways are equally valid, bigots!” As they tore more and more “One Way” signs down throughout the area, more and more traffic collisions continued to follow in their wake.

At one point, the growing mob stopped to boo and jeer at a large, red “Wrong Way” sign positioned near a freeway off-ramp, cautioning cars not to drive down the left-hand side of a dangerous highway. Finally, the anger of the crowd boiled over, and they tore the sign down with a chain and harness, shouting, “Death to oppression!”

At publishing time, the mob was spotted replacing “patriarchal” stop signs with soothing green “Go For It As Long As You Don’t Hurt Anyone” signs.

Martin Luther’s Confession of Huldrych Zwingli’s Theological Superiority

What follows is a historical reconstruction* by means of figures (they aren’t dolls, stop calling them dolls, I don’t play with dolls)

Quote of the Century

No nation has ever become great by war that has not ultimately been cast down by war. — Huldrych Zwingli

This is a very good essay.  Read it.

Signs of the Times

Trump didn’t create these people, he unleashed them.  He showed them that they could not only be accepted but actually be elected.  Because they represent millions of Americans.

This isn’t an anomaly, this is America as it really is.  This is who Americans are now.  This is how far we’ve strayed from who we used to be, but are no longer.

Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward. (Isa. 1:4)

Karl Barth, The ‘Kind of Doctor Who Doesn’t Help Anyone’

The story is told- and I don’t know if it’s true or not- that shortly after Karl received his VERY well deserved doctorandus honoris causa his little son Markus was playing with a school-mate and his little friend asked him what kind of Doctor his father Karl was, Markus is said to have quipped

‘The kind that doesn’t help anyone’.

Karl apparently loved to tell that story and it is cute.  But if one were to ask Emil Brunner what he thought his reaction might well have been a bit different.  Brunner took theology quite seriously and believed that there was no higher or more important calling or work.  For him, Karl was – qua theologian – the precise sort of Doctor who DOES help people and in fact helped in matters far more important than a mere MD or Podiatrist or Gynecologist or whatever.

Karl did too.  But just not as seriously as Brunner.  That’s why I call Karl the Neo-Calvin and Brunner the Neo-Zwingli.  Thankfully, there has only ever been one Luther.

NB- By the by, Charlotte v. Kirschbaum always thought Karl was ‘very’ helpful… *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*.

Luther’s Wife and Her Awesome Lips…

Sorry you can’t see them- Luther had her wear this mouth muzzle…

I guess when you need women to keep silent in Church, you convince them the mouth muffler is the fashion trend to adopt…

The Best Book on the Roots of the Israeli/ Palestinian Conflict: ‘The Yellow Wind’

This is must reading.  I read it when it was published in the late 80’s and I still remember it vividly.  When you read this book you will never see the Middle East the same.

Calvin on the Schismatics and their Insulting Words About Zwingli and Oecolampadius

Melanchthon showed Calvin an anti-Zwingli anti-Oecolampadius pamphlet written by a schismatic and Calvin remarked

What good purpose could it serve to assault the Zwinglians every third line, and to attack Zwingli himself in such an unmannerly style?   And not even to spare Oecolampadius, that holy servant of God, whom I wish that he resembled, even in being half as good, in which case he would certainly stand far higher in my esteem than he does. O God of grace, what pleasant sport and pastime do we afford to the Papists, as if we had hired ourselves to do their work!”

The last line means that Calvin saw these schismatics as doing more harm to the Reformation than the Papists could ever hope.
