One of the Things You Learn Spending Time in Asia…

Is that Confucianism, with its rather appalling disinterest in the well-being of ‘the other’ and its near total focus on the individual and his nuclear family concerns is more faithfully followed (even if unknowingly) by many Americans than Christianity is.

That is, Confucianism is all about the self.  And so is so much American brand Christianity.  This is astonishing.  Especially given Christianity’s actual concern for the other and its core belief that we have been put here to serve rather than be served.

In truth, most American Christians are better Confucians than they are Christians!
