It Isn’t Just the GOP that Won’t Fix our Gun Laws…

I’ll remind you that as craven and contemptible as the GOP is, the Dems did NOTHING about guns when they controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House. This isn’t a GOP problem, it’s a CONGRESS problem. ALL of them, every last one of the wretches, need to be KICKED OUT.

Time To Start Carrying: Mass Murder at Sutherland Springs Baptist Church

At least 20 dead, 30 injured in Texas church shooting.

A sheriff says that a man walked into the church and started firing. Authorities say the attacker is dead.

The number of fatalities or injuries hasn’t been confirmed by authorities, but a Wilson County commissioner, Albert Gamez, has told cable news outlets that he was told it was more than 20 killed and 20 wounded, though those figures aren’t confirmed.

I think I’ll buy a gun.  The BBC reports a higher casualty rate minutes ago-

At least 27 dead in Texas church shooting, provides updates on events in Sutherland Springs

From the twitter- Sutherland Springs, Texas: Population: 400. First Baptist Church: Average of 50 per service.

That means that essentially an entire church congregation was shot.  The gunman opened fire at around 11:30, right in the middle of the service.

If You Preach Booze, The Crowd Will Love You

Disaster for those who plot evil, who lie in bed planning mischief! No sooner is it dawn than they do it, since they have the power to do so.  Seizing the fields that they covet, they take over houses as well, owner and house they seize alike, the man himself as well as his inheritance.

So Yahweh says this: Look, I am now plotting a disaster for this breed from which you will not extricate your necks; you will not hold your heads up then, for the times will be disastrous indeed. That day they will make a satire on you, they will strike up a dirge and say, ‘We have been stripped of everything; my people’s land has been divided up, no one else can restore it to them, our fields have been awarded to our despoiler.’  Because of this, you will have no one to measure out a share in Yahweh’s community.

‘Do not drivel,’ they drivel, ‘do not drivel like this! Disgrace will not overtake us!  ‘Can the House of Jacob be accursed? Has Yahweh grown short-tempered? Is that his way of going to work? His prophecies can only be favourable for his people Israel!’

But you are the ones who play the enemy to my people. From the inoffensive man you snatch his cloak, on those who feel safe you inflict the damage of war. My people’s women you evict from the homes they love, and deprive the children of my glory for ever, saying, ‘Up and off with you! You can’t stay here!’ For a worthless thing you exact an extortionate pledge.

If a man of the spirit came and invented this lie, ‘I prophesy wine and liquor for you,’ he would be the prophet for a people like this. (Mic. 2:1-11)

Luther: On His Translation of the Bible

“This German Bible (this is not praise for myself but the work praises itself) is so good and precious that it’s better than all other versions, Greek and Latin, and one can find more in it than in all commentaries, for we are removing impediments and difficulties so that other people may read in it without hindrance. I’m only concerned that there won’t be much reading in the Bible, for people are very tired of it and nobody clamors for it any more.” — Martin Luther

It’s Not the Future of the SBC, But Its Death Seen Here

Emergent pseudo-christianity as exemplified in the exceedingly inaccurate ‘theology’ of these two and their kindred spirits won’t rescue the SBC from extinction, it will hasten it.  Anthropocentric fame-questing has nothing to do with Christian faith and everything to do with hellish and demonic self-aggrandizement.

Contra Hubmaier

Zwingli’s Antwort über Balthasar Hubmaiers Taufbüchlein, appeared on 5 November 1525.

It commences (after its Preface to Hubmaier)

Hubmaier was the most intellectually gifted of the ‘Anabaptists’ but he was a man given to waffling.  When faced with the prospect of expulsion from Zurich he suddenly came to agree with Zwingli on the subject of baptism and then his conscience got the better of him and he recanted his recantation.

So he was locked up.  And then expelled.

Zwingli’s ‘Answer’ is a fine example of an excellent and yet ultimately unpersuasive defense of infant baptism.  And that primarily for one reason- baptism isn’t like circumcision.  Baptism is an act undertaken by believers.  Circumcision was an act performed upon newborns.

The analogy Zwingli and other defenders of infant baptism cling to – i.e., that just as circumcision served as a sign of the covenant for Israel so too does baptism for Christians – is false.  They are incomparable.

Still, Zwingli being wrong about baptism only means one thing: he wasn’t always right. But even given his disagreement with Hubmaier, his tone is extremely civil (a gift Luther completely lacked) –
