You Are Not The Final Arbitor of Good and Evil

People sometimes say that if God really is all powerful then he is not Good because of the things that happen.

I say that if God is behind everything that happens, and what he does is good, then what’s bad to us is only bad from our perspective.

Furthermore, since God is God and you are not, then what is evil and good are ultimately determined by God and not by you.

Or in other words, God is the final arbitor of that which is ultimately Good and that which is Evil. And you are not. Nor is your philosophy nor your worldview nor your point of view.

Excellent! The Bible is chock-full of examples of, where God tell us “thou shalt not kill” and yet He overlooks, if not endorses, or commands, a prophet cutting a king to pieces in front of the people… He despises liars, but when it was to fulfill His Sovereign will, he inspired prophets to lie (still holding them responsible for the lie). Adultery is wrong, but he told a prophet to marry an adulteress. There are more examples! Of course, with the ever necessary disclaimer that I am not a theologian, and as such unworthy to shine your shoes, I see no other way in the Scriptures to regard God the ultimate and sole determinant of what is good and evil and when… I trust Him for what and who He is, not for what He does or what happens. Soli Deo Gloria in everything, through everything and for everything; a very hard concept!
