Evil is Evil: An Observation

Evil is evil whether it’s the doing of a Palestinian radical hiding behind a black facemask or an Israeli Prime Minister hiding behind a claim to land.  Evil is evil whether it’s a Russian separatist who shoots down a passenger jet or a Russian President who provides the separatist with it.  Evil is evil whether it is the mother who slaughters her infant child or the father who turns a blind eye to his wife’s declining state.

Evil is evil- and inexcusable. And only evil makes excuses for it.

The Norwegian Doctor’s ‘Letter from Gaza’

It’s gut wrenching.  And it ends thusly

Mr. Obama – do you have a heart? I invite you – spend one night – just one night – with us in Shifa. Disguised as a cleaner, maybe. I am convinced, 100%, it would change history. Nobody with a heart AND power could ever walk away from a night in Shifa without being determined to end the slaughter of the Palestinian people. But the heartless and merciless have done their calculations and planned another “dahyia” onslaught on Gaza. The rivers of blood will keep running the coming night. I can hear they have tuned their instruments of death. Please. Do what you can. This, THIS cannot continue.

He has no heart, just a wallet.  And it’s tuned to the frequency of #AIPAC and the donors behind all of America’s politicians.

What the Leaders of Hamas, And Israel, Lack is Moral Courage

Neither the leaders of Hamas nor the government of Israel have the moral courage to do what must be done.  And what’s that?  STOP.  Hamas doesn’t have to courage to do it.  And their people are the ones suffering most.  And Netanyahu can’t stop until Hamas stops.  He simply can’t.  Because he lacks the moral courage to say ‘enough of this madness’.

Gee Mr Obama, It’s Nice of You to Feel So Strongly…

Might it have occurred to you to tell him to stop?

The Solution to the Gaza Crisis

1- Hamas ceases firing rockets at Israel immediately.

2- Israel withdraws its troops from Gaza once Hamas has ceased firing.

3- Israel ceases firing artillery into and bombing in Gaza.

4- Humanitarian Aid, medicine, building materials of all types, and food provided by Islamic states are airlifted in by German transport planes.

5- The Danish government organizes bilateral talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority/ Fatah in order to arrange a long term cease fire.

6- Gaza borders are opened after 360 days of complete cessation of rocket bombardments of Israel from Gaza.

7- Gaza is declared a Free State five years from the complete cessation of rocket bombardments of Israel from Gaza.

8- Simultaneously, Palestine (the West Bank) is declared a Free State on the same date as Gaza.

Remembering The Giants

B. Rhenanus died on the 20th of July in 1547. Unfortunately his name is scarcely known these days but in his own he was tremendously important, significant, and influential. Rhenanus was one of Zwingli’s closest University friends and while in Basel, sent Zwingli many of Luther’s works (which were being printed there).

Though more Humanist than Reformer (he was very close to Erasmus*), Rhenanus was still a valuable member of Zwingli’s inner circle.

Oskar Farner published an interesting essay in 1913 about Zwingli’s ‘becoming’ a Reformer and in it he naturally brings up Rhenanus.  Give it a read.

*In his will, Erasmus left various items to various family and friends. Rhenanus included-

A considerable time ago I sold my library to John à Lasco, Baron of Poland, but by the contract made between us, the books are not to be delivered to him except on payment to my heir of 200 florins. If he refuse to accede to these conditions, or dies before me, it shall be free to my heir to dispose of the books as he may think proper. To Louis Berus I bequeath my gold watch; to Beatus Rhenanus my gold cup and my gold fork; to Peter Vetereus 150 gold crowns; and as many to Philip Montanus. To my servant Lambert, should he be in my service at my decease, I bequeath 200 gold florins, unless I shall have paid him that sum in my lifetime. I bequeath to John Brisch my silver bottle; to Paul Volzius 100 gold florins; to Sigismund Telenius 150 ducats; to John Erasmus Froben two rings, the one without a stone, and the turquoise. I bequeath to John Froben all my clothes and all my furniture, in wool, linen, or wood, also my cup engraved with the arms of the Cardinal of Maintz; and to his wife the ring with the figure of a woman looking behind her.

Why Do You Need to Be In Worship Today?

Because our world is filled with the evils of war and cruelty and viciousness and depravity.  And the old ridiculous belief that education or prosperity will make it better is proven wrong every day.  In our day even parental instinct has been overridden by depravity.

A 28-year-old Greenville mother of four has been arrested and charged for allegedly starving and beating her 7-year-old son in conjunction with her parents, who were also taken into custody.

Mary C. Rader, and her parents Dennis C. Beighley, 58, and Deana C. Beighley, 47, were arrested at their home on Wednesday following an investigation by the Mercer County District Attorney’s office which began after the Mercer County Children and Youth Services informed them of the situation.

According to their report, the child was “clearly underweight,” and suffering from extreme neglect and abuse at the hands of his mother and grandparents. The boy lived with his grandparents, mother, two sisters and elder brother. While the two girls were healthy, the two boys were both undernourished.

Last month the younger brother was taken to UPMC Horizon medical facility, and then transferred to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was found to weigh only 25 pounds, even though he had gained some weight since spending time there.

Accordingly, and I’m willing to assert this without hesitation, our only hope is God and our only refuge is faith.  That’s why you need to find your place in his presence.  Without doing so, where will you turn?
