Some Awesomeness From the Past: Brown and Käsemann

After several attempts at tracking down the copyright ownership of a newspaper photo of a discussion between Raymond E. Brown and Ernst Käsemann at the World Council of Churches Meeting in 1963, without any success, I have decided to post the photo on the Raymond Brown website, here.

It’s a great photo indeed!  But with all due respect to Matt- Käsemann is way more super-awesome than even Brown who was himself awesome.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that conversation!

I can tell you exactly what Käsemann said- ‘Oh Raymond, you have some very interesting ideas but of course you completely miss the point of the quest for the Historical Jesus.  Keep trying, one day you may arrive at our Teutonic heights.’

    You’re right about Käsemann being so far ahead of Brown. Käsemann was an original thinker, while Brown just made thin designs on other people’s ideas.
