Mike Huckabee, I Used to Like You, But You’ve Just Jumped the Shark

Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) compared the administration’s handling of the consulate attack in Libya to Watergate, during an appearance on the network Friday morning, and hinted that the president should be impeached for not immediately attributing the violence to terrorism.

“We have been flat-out lied to,” Huckabee told Fox’s Bill Hemmer. “They know they lied. As if airplanes crashing into the World Trade Center said those were just accidents. Anybody with two eyes and an IQ above plant life knows what happened in Libya was not a spontaneous reaction to a 13 minute video on YouTube”:

HUCKABEE: It was a planned orchestrated attack led by terrorists, terrorists, Bill. And this White House has to explain why it hasn’t owned up to that. Why it can’t say it. I think frankly, if this issue really gets traction that it deserves, and let it say it deserves, go back. Richard Nixon was forced out of office because he lied. And because he covered some stuff up. I will be blunt and tell you this. Nobody died in Watergate. We have people who are dead because of this. There are questions to be answered and Americans ought to demand to get answers. […]

HEMMER: Just one more thing here. What you’re describing, comparing events of today to Watergate.

HUCKABEE: I sure am….Bill, i’m not saying this just out of some political interest. I’m saying that our trust as a nation is built on our ability to know that when our president, whoever he is, Democrat or Republican, looks us in the eye and tells us something, we ought to know he is telling us the truth.

Congratulations, Mike.  Meet Mr. Shark.  Mr Shark, Mike.  He’s just jumped you.

Another ‘Jesus Wife’ Fragment Disclosed!!!

Wow, once the floodgates open, they really open!!!!  I do so appreciate Tom Bolin pointing this out on the FB-

Late last night, during a lavish banquet at an exclusive address in Chelsea, my Indiana Jones moment finally arrived. A mysterious man approached our dinner table and handed me a small box. “It’s a gift. Just for you–” he said, and vanished.

“Who was that?” I asked my dinner companions. “He said his name was ‘Grant,’ but he smiled mischievously as he said that,” reported one onlooker. Clearly “Grant” was a pseudonym, and a clever one at that. For what this middle man had given me was truly a gift.

By asking around at the fundraiser, I learned that this new papyrus — hereafter P.Chelsea 1 (or P.Chels. 1 for citation) — had been “granted” to me by an anonymous collector. Since I have recently been blogging so much (too much, I fear) about new papyri, this anonymous collector thought I would be the perfect person to evaluate the contents of P.Chelsea 1. My editio princeps is forthcoming in the premier journal, Collecteana: L’Revue d’Année Papyrologique (CRAP), but my initial commentary follows below the photo-

See the link above for the writer’s commentary.  Here’s mine-

And the best thing about this fragment?  It’s JUST as authentic as the earlier one!  (And yes, some things deserve to be mocked).

Fox News Isn’t Just Fake News, It’s Sick News

Hundreds of thousands of Americans watched a man shoot himself in the head live on television on Friday as Fox News broadcast the final moments of a car chase in Arizona.

The FCC needs to look into Fox’s broadcast license. And revoke it.

The cable news channel was playing live footage of the pursuit when the suspect leapt out of his car and began running away down a dirt track. As producers and viewers watched, the man staggered away from his vehicle, ran a short distance into the grass and then produced a gun. Shephard Smith, Fox News’s afternoon anchor, was providing a running commentary as the suspect lurched away from the vehicle and viewers could hear his producers gasping in horror as the man shot himself. Mr Smith shouted “get off it, get off it” as it became clear the man intended to kill himself but the station did not cut away in time and broadcast the suspect crumpling to the ground. Fox went to a commercial break and when it returned to the studio a visibly shaken Mr Smith apologised to viewers, saying “that didn’t belong on TV”.

Too late. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Or are they suggesting they don’t operate with some sort of delay capability? They can bleep out profanity because the have a button- they can do the same to video. Fox. Sick.

Fox has a habit of inappropriate and misleading reporting.  They really are due an investigation.

Oh My- The Iranian News Agency Thinks The Onion is Real News!

Oh my.  FARS has plagiarized The Onion!

Apparently unaware of the unwritten rules of both ethical journalism and satire, an Iranian news agency published an edited copy of a report from The Onion on Friday, without crediting the original or acknowledging that it was fiction.  The Fars News Agency, which is close to Iran’s powerful Republican Guard Corps, posted its version of the report on its English-language Web site under the same headline used by The Onion for the original four days earlier: “Gallup Poll: Rural Whites Prefer Ahmadinejad To Obama.”

Bahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!  What dimwittery.

Another ‘Accredited’ School With a Plagiarizing Prof

The school?  Amherst.  Yes, it’s ‘accredited’.  I mention that because some people think ‘accreditation’ means something when in fact and in practice, it only means the robbery of institutions of higher education by scheming thieves who’ve managed to hoodwink people into thinking that if they’re ‘accredited’ they’re somehow ‘better’.

Carleen Basler, an assistant professor of American studies and sociology at Amherst College, resigned last week after senior faculty members discovered that she had plagiarized some of her scholarly work. The plagiarism was found as Basler was being evaluated for tenure, officials said. “She accepted responsibility and decided to resign,” said Gregory Call, the dean of faculty at Amherst and a mathematics professor. Biddy Martin, president of the college, said that Basler had worked at Amherst since 2003. When asked about the extent of plagiarism, Martin said it was “extensive.” An automatic reply to an e-mail sent to Basler’s college e-mail account said: “Carleen Basler is no longer with Amherst College.”

Don’t be too mad at Carleen though- this kind of thing goes on all the time- most of plagiarism’s practitioners just haven’t been discovered.  And why they plagiarize is beyond me.  Have they never heard of citations or footnotes?  good grief.  (HT Matt Hamilton on the twitter).   [See, that’s called a citation.  It’s easy.]

Zwingli’s Observations on War and Peace

Zwingli writes, masterfully

… We [i.e., speaking in the voice of the Roman Church] wish to seem devoted to peace, even when we hold arms in our hands and live in camp.

So grateful a thing is peace to poor mortals, which yet these persons [i.e., the Roman Catholic Pope and Bishops] are strongly bent upon disturbing. For, the reason they take such pains to pretend that they are seeking peace is that they may meanwhile devour all things with their teeth.

For where peace flourishes, what churches are there, pray, in which they do not make demands like beggars? And if you do not put cakes into their mouths, but refuse, they even hallow a war against you. What princes, pray, for too many years now have refused anything to these Romanists, the bishops and their satellites, that the latter have not declared war upon them?

How often have we seen compacts broken by them! How many myriads of souls have they struck down!

I say nothing of the havoc done to bodies, property, and estates, of the destruction of cities, the ruin of chastity and faithfulness, the extinction of general righteousness, the barbarizing of men’s natures, all of which war brings with it.

Hence it comes that night is unto us instead of vision, that is, that we embrace darkness instead of light. Are we not all blinded to the clear light of truth? And do we not pretend not to see what we really do see? But through whose wiles does this come about? Those of the false prophets, who prophesy for money [that is, the Roman Bishop and his underlings].

Peace, in short, isn’t what Rome desired- it desired money and would do anything for it, including declaring war on all who opposed it. Mutatis mutandis, this is what war is always about- money.

Politicians like Bibi who crave war should experience it first hand and not send other people to die for their insanity.

Nakoula Should Stay In Prison

The filmmaker behind the anti-Islamic video “Innocence of Muslims” that has sparked violence across the globe faces up to three years in federal prison after being arrested Thursday for alleged probation violations.  Probation officials have recommended a 24-month term for Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, prosecutors said in court. He faces a maximum of three years in prison if found to have violated his parole.  He was arrested Thursday and ordered back to jail during an usual hearing.  The hearing occurred amid high security, with the public only allowed to watch through a video feed in a separate courthouse blocks away. Before his arrest Thursday, Nakoula and his family had been in hiding, and his attorney said he had received threats to his safety.  Magistrate Judge Suzanne H. Segal ordered Nakoula detained, citing a “lengthy pattern of deception” by the man, adding that he poses “some danger to the community.” Nakoula could face up to three years behind bars.

He should remain there for a very long time.  Three years is insufficient.  30 would be more fitting- the guy is a career criminal.
