Another Book Giveaway: Reading Scripture with the Reformers

Would you like a copy of Timothy George’s delightful Reading Scripture with the Reformers?  This time the contest is an easy one:

1- Tell me in comments why you want the book.

2- Link to the contest.

The contest ends on October 11 (along with the previously mentioned one which offers the newly published Reformation Commentary volume covering Galatians and Ephesians).

Simple, right?  Even Scott Bailey can understand it and even Joel Watts and Esteban Vazquez can do those two things.

Oh, and why do I have a copy of this and the Commentary to give away?  The kindness of the good folk at IVP Academic, that’s why!

dear jim west, i would like this book to read because i want to learn more about what the reformers believed in their own words, not what someone else has said about them.

Most of my readings concerning the Reformers and/or the Reformation has been about them. I’ve not read much on how they read Scripture. Sure, reading their theological works does this in some measure, but this would be a different window perhaps to look through in trying to see how they looked at Scripture.

I would like to read the book to see how the Reformers actually read, interpreted, and applied the Scriptures to their lives. Most of what I have previously read was just surface level history.

I have read other Timothy George books, and for the most part I like his work. The topic is intriguing, and for these reasons I would like to win this book giveaway.

i’m a pastor of indonesian reformed evangelical church, and one of my daily responsibilities is studying the bible, preparing myself to teach the congregation that god has entrusted to be under my care. i want the book because i simply need it.

First, it would be a great anniversary gift since we were married on 10/10. Ok so all kidding aside. It would be a great resource in the ministry i run with women coming out of arminian churches and a system that counters the Biblical soteriological teaching.

I’d like to win the book not just because it’s (A) a free book and (B) likely a thought-provoking companion to the RCS, but also because (C) I’m eager to see what George and the RCS editors and contributors make of the Reformers’ polemical uses of Scripture — as when Muntzer quotes Luke 19:27, WAY out of context, in a particularly vitriolic letter.

    Dear Mr. Jim West,
I am not trying to finagle a winning comment, per se. But I did not put a link onto my name towards a “website” in my original post. But I will place one on this comment. I don’t have a website, but I do blog which pretty much functions like one anyway. I still stand by my original reasons for why I want the books. Thank you for your kind consideration, gracious giveaway and please, elect me.

    Dear Dr. West,

I would like this book because I have yet to be reformed.
