That the ‘Jordan Lead Codices’ have their own Facebook page. No I won’t be linking to it. No I won’t be friending it. I’ve heard several folks mention it and I just find myself utterly unconcerned about it. Those in the know (particularly Robert Deutsch) have made it painfully clear that they are bogus nonsense.
So chase them if you must, but I’ve better things to do. I’m sure some reprehensible depraved evildoer needs a scolding.
On ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, Huntsman criticized Perry’s recent comments on global climate change (“a scientific theory that has not been proven”) and evolution (“a theory that’s out there”).
“When we take a position that isn’t willing to embrace evolution, when we take a position that basically runs counter to what 98 of 100 climate scientists have said, what the National Academy of Science has said about what is causing climate change and man’s contribution to it, I think we find ourselves on the wrong side of science, and, therefore, in a losing position,” Huntsman said.
Feuding Republicans. It’s showtime!
Huntsman also took aim at Michele Bachmann, another strong candidate and tea party favorite, for claiming in South Carolina last week that her energy policy would bring gasoline prices back down below $2 a gallon – a promise Huntsman called “completely unrealistic.”
I like him more and more! Mr Huntsman, I’m going to keep my eyes on you.

CNN is reporting (via email)
Saif al-Islam, Moammar Gadhafi’s son, has been captured, according to the head of the Rebel National Transitional Council in an interview with Al Jazeera. Meanwhile, a Libyan government spokesman warned of humanitarian disaster and a “massacre” in Tripoli as rebel forces advanced into the capital Sunday, but said forces loyal to longtime strongman Moammar Gadhafi were holding off the attacks. Musa Ibrahim said Gadhafi’s forces were being reinforced by volunteers coming into Tripoli and “can hold for much longer.” But he acknowledged that rebel forces were pushing into the seaside capital, and told CNN that “a massacre will be committed in Tripoli if one side wins.” He denied reports that Gadhafi’s bodyguards had surrendered, but repeated calls for a halt to NATO airstrikes and urged peace talks.
Peace talks? As if. Let’s pray it’s Gadafi’s last hour and the last day of tyrants everywhere.
UPDATE II: Via the Washington Post- Rebel fighters reached the outskirts of Tripoli on Sunday and dissidents claimed they were in control of several city neighborhoods as the six-month-old battle for control of Libya appeared to be hurtling towards its climax.
Rebel leaders in Tripoli said Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s compound was effectively surrounded and that the opposition is now only waiting for rebel reinforcements to arrive before beginning a final assault. But with communications to the capital sporadic and journalists confined to their hotel, the reports of opposition gains within Tripoli could not be independently confirmed, and some experts cautioned that a tough urban battle may yet lie ahead. There were nonetheless many reports suggesting Gaddafi’s defenses were melting away faster than had been expected.
UPDATE III: The Washington Post emails- Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi’s four decade rule over Libya was crumbling at breakneck speed on Sunday as rebel leaders claimed Gaddafi’s compound was surrounded, that his son Saif al-Islam had been captured and his presidential guard had surrendered. Late Sunday, opposition fighters were battling loyalist fighters for control of the symbolically significant Green Square in the heart of the city, previously the scene of near-daily pro-Gaddafi rallies, according to one Tripoli based rebel, as the sound of explosions, gunfire and cries of “God is great” echoed down the telephone line. Another activist said rebels had secured the seaport, where several hundred rebel reinforcements had arrived by boat, and were also in the process of evicting Gaddafi loyalists from the Mitiga airbase on the eastern edge of the city.

Buried in a Reuters article from last week is this priceless little nugget: PETA is planning a porn site. In advance of launching the .xxx Internet domain in December, ICM Registry is accepting applications from brand owners who want to protect their brands from being used in a .xxx URL (for example: Barbie.xxx). Turns out PETA is signing up—but not to protect itself; rather, to launch its own site: peta.xxx. A spokesperson told Reuters it will, in fact, be a porn site bringing attention to animal issues.
Too many ignorant persons presume to understand Luther’s view of the Jews only from his nearly end of life tirade against Jewish persons who had bedeviled him in his rightly excoriated ‘On the Jews and Their Lies‘. What such persons, ignorant as they are, don’t know, or don’t care to know, that in the early 1520’s Luther was one of the few in Germany who defended the Jews and indeed, one of the few who asserted that Jesus was himself a Jew.
In 1523 he wrote ‘That Jesus Christ was born a Jew’ in opposition to the anti-semitism rampant in his day. Among other things he wrote
[I assert, then, that] Christ was a Jew born of a virgin, that I might perhaps also win some Jews to the Christian faith. Our fools, the popes, bishops, sophists, and monks—the crude asses’ heads—have hitherto so treated the Jews that anyone who wished to be a good Christian would almost have had to become a Jew. If I had been a Jew and had seen such dolts and blockheads govern and teach the Christian faith, I would sooner have become a hog than a Christian.
They have dealt with the Jews as if they were dogs rather than human beings; they have done little else than deride them and seize their property. When they baptize them they show them nothing of Christian doctrine or life, but only subject them to popishness and monkery. When the Jews then see that Judaism has such strong support in Scripture, and that Christianity has become a mere babble without reliance on Scripture, how can they possibly compose themselves and become right good Christians? I have myself heard from pious baptized Jews that if they had not in our day heard the gospel they would have remained Jews under the cloak of Christianity for the rest of their days. For they acknowledge that they have never yet heard anything about Christ from those who baptized and taught them. — Luther’s works, vol. 45.
Luther eviscerates the practice of baptism by force and the worse practice of baptizing without instruction or compassion. Luther didn’t hate the Jews- even when he wrote his tirade. He hated falsehood. And he hated falsehood whether it was found in Rome or Wittenberg.
Those poorly informed historical ignoramuses who repeatedly denounce Luther as an anti-semite are simply wrong. They know nothing of Luther nor anything of the history of the Church. All they know is their own biases and prejudices.

As Palestinian militants tried to forge a tentative cease-fire agreement with Israel on Sunday, pressure was building on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to retaliate for the latest round of violence by launching a major military campaign in the Gaza Strip similar to the 22-day Operation Cast Lead in late 2008. After visiting hospitalized Israelis who were injured by rocket attacks over the weekend, Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom said Israel should take decisive military action to discourage future Palestinian strikes. “The deterrence of Cast Lead has exhausted itself,” he said. “We’re not ruling out the possibility of a ground operation.” Opposition lawmakers also urged Netanyahu to cripple the infrastructure of Hamas, the Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip. “You must use force against terrorism,” said opposition leader Tzipi Livni, whose Kadima Party was in power during Operation Cast Lead.
Meanwhile the people who launched the rockets won’t be the one’s who suffer from a crippled infrastructure. But that’s Israeli policy: when you suffer a stubbed toe, drop a nuclear bomb on the rock upon which you yourself stumbled.
I’m absolutely certain that some in Israel won’t be happy until every Palestinian is dead and rotting in the sun.

BREAKING NEWS: Titans football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. The Head Coach immediately suspended practice while police were called to investigate. After a complete analysis, experts determined that the white substance unknown to players was the “GOAL LINE”. Practice resumed after a special agent decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

As governor of Texas, with its huge Latino population, [Rick Perry]’s held a more moderate stance on the issue than many fellow Republicans. But recent actions indicate a shift.
Sure he is. He has to. The neo-Nazis who support him and who provide him his core and base insist on racism and fear mongering and the whole ‘if we don’t stop them they will take over all us white folk’ mentality. If you’re surprised Perry is becoming less hospitable, you’ve just not been paying attention to the group he’s trying to woo.
Immigration advocates in Texas were heartened last year when the Republican governor, Rick Perry, flatly stated that Arizona’s crackdown on illegal immigrants “would not be the right direction for Texas.”
But in June, Perry convened a special session of the Legislature, hoping to pass a measure outlawing sanctuary cities — places where police are not allowed to ask people they detain about immigration status.
The law, which had already failed during the Legislature’s regular session, was defeated a second time thanks to an opposition coalition that included immigration activists as well as law enforcement officials, evangelical pastors and Republican business owners, among them one of Perry’s biggest fundraisers.
Why did the governor push the ban in a state where no official sanctuary cities even exist? Many in Texas, including Perry supporters, thought they knew the answer: He was considering a run for the Republican presidential nomination.
You can’t be angry with Perry, he’s your typical dirtbag politician pandering to the views of the extremists he hopes will get out and vote for him. Par for the political course.

Especially for sports fans. Either you’re in danger of getting beaten into a coma or you’re liable to be shot.
A shooting after an NFL preseason game in San Francisco left two people hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The incident happened Saturday night outside Candlestick Park parking lot, said Police Sgt. Michael Andraychak of San Francisco. It occurred after an NFL preseason game at the park between the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders.
No, not a safe place to visit at all. When I go in November I’m playing on avoiding all the shady places where hoodlums congregate like sporting venues and the Brill booth at the book exhibition.

From the Tischreden–
On April 5 a pastor came from the church in Süptitz, near Torgau, to complain of apparitions and disturbances caused by Satan. He said that Satan disturbed his peace with nocturnal tumults and the smashing of all the utensils in his house. Satan hurled pots and dishes close to his head, so that they broke in pieces, and Satan annoyed him by laughing outloud, although he saw nothing of him. For a whole year, the pastor said, he had endured these and many other trials, so that his wife and children wished to leave [the house].
Luther responded, “Dear Brother, be strong in the Lord and firm in your faith! Don’t give in to that robber! Suffer the outward things and the minor damage that comes from the breaking of pots, for it can’t harm you in body and soul, as you have found, for the angel of the Lord is with you. Let Satan play with the pots. Meanwhile pray to God with your wife and children [and say], ‘Be off, Satan! I’m lord in this house, not you. By divine authority I’m head of this household, and I have a call from heaven to be pastor of this church. I have testimony from heaven and earth, and this is what I rely on. You enter this house as a thief and robber. You are a murderer and a scoundrel. Why don’t you stay in heaven? Who invited you to come here?’ In this way you should sing him his litany and his legend and let him play as long as he pleases.
“I was often pestered [by the devil] when I was imprisoned in my Patmos, high up in the fortress in the kingdom of the birds. I resisted him in faith and confronted him with this verse: God, who created man, is mine, and all things are under his feet.129 If you have any power over him, try it!”
Then he told a story about a woman in Magdeburg who, when Satan disturbed her, drove him away by breaking wind. “This example is not always to be followed and is dangerous,” Luther said, “because Satan, who is the spirit and author of presumption, is not easily mocked and put to flight. Reliance on such an example can prove that it’s not at all appropriate for somebody else. So it once happened that a horned specter of Satan lost his horn when a godly man boasted of his baptism, but when another man foolishly tried to imitate this example, he was killed by Satan.”
And that, my friends, is what will happen to you too, if you drink beer.
