That doesn’t mean I like all his policies but I do like him as a person and I especially like his unwillingness to back down when pressured by the far right. Apologize to the Tea people? Why? So good for him for refusing to do so. He’s right, they are Hobbits.
A tea partier confronted Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain during a town hall meeting Monday with one simple request: Please apologize for calling us “hobbits.” Instead, McCain may have just made matters worse. “I am sorry if I was misunderstood,” he told the constituent after a testy exchange, which can be seen on video below. “But I am not sorry for what I said. Why should I if it was a fact?””
Worse? Believe me, I’ve known people of the tea party mentality my whole life. You can’t make things worse with them, you can only give them more ammunition to use against you no matter what you do or say.
Stand firm, McCain!
