The riots and pillaging have gone from sickening to abhorrent to downright perversity. The Telegraph reports
People were forced to leap from the upstairs windows of a burning building in Croydon last night as rioting spread across London and beyond. On the third consecutive night of violence and looting, hordes of balaclava-clad yobs stormed shops, setting fire to businesses indiscriminately.
As police fought running battles with mobs of rioters – many of them teenagers – detectives were also called to investigate a shooting incident. A Metropolitan Police source said the incident was believed to be “non-fatal”.
Among the casualties of the arson attacks was a furniture store that has stood for nearly 150 years in the south London borough. Reeves, a family run business established in 1867, was engulfed in flames sending smoke billowing across the London skyline. As the blaze raged out of control, the store’s owner Trevor Reeves said: “It’s just completely destroyed. Words fail me.
It’s just gone, it’s five generations. My father is distraught. It’s just mindless thuggery.”
I weep for that beautiful city. And I pray God brings justice and judgment down on the heads of the mobs.
“What is wrong with the world?” That diagnosis has already been given. We should ask, “What has happened to the salt and light?”

Intolerant of folly
If a man is in open rebellion, everyone is both his judge and his executioner. . . Therefore, let everyone who can, smite, slay, and stab, secretly or openly, remembering that nothing can be more poisonous, hurtful, or devilish than a rebel. It is just as when one must kill a mad dog. -Martin Luther (Against the Robbing and Murdering Hordes of Peasants, 1525).
Though naturally such a response is too extreme- the hooligans presently destroying great swaths of London need to be stopped by whatever force is necessary. Innocent lives should never be put at risk because of mob violence. The thugs really are acting like nothing other than mad dogs.
Nothing a fatal beating wouldn’t cure. Via.
The political blame game that has followed Standard & Poor’s U.S. debt downgrade has been dismally predictable. Democrats point fingers at the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. Republicans condemn President Obama for an inability to lead. And S&P has been alternately hailed for calling out Washington’s budgeting dysfunction and excoriated for overstepping in its ratings role.
Dismally predictable. That perfectly describes the miserable urchins of Washington, DC- the wealthiest of all the welfare recipients. I.e., Congress.
They will never change because they have no reason to. They know that the American voters will send them right back because it’s always ‘the other guy’s representative and not mine’ who is the problem.
And then he tried to hire a hitman to kill the girl and her family.
Hell can’t burn too hotly for this depraved reprobate.
A Knoxville man pleaded guilty Monday to raping and impregnating a 10-year-old girl, then trying to hire a hit man to kill her and her family. James Davenport pleaded to rape of a child and solicitation of first degree murder. He was sentenced to 37 years in prison.
No, hell itself it too good for him. There should be a worse-than-hell hell.
“The government’s economic policies have resulted in 6,000 millionaires and 6 million beggars.” – SHIMON PERES (in 2004)
Too bad no one listened to him then. (Via Deane Galbraith on FB).
Joel’s always been the sort to walk the razor’s edge on the cusp on insanity. Well he’s jumped right on over that edge now and he’s totally – depravedly – bonkers.
Here’s what Joel has written me in a letter he never actually wrote:
I’ve been asking Poppa Smurf to pray for you but he says since you don’t believe that Lady Smurf died for your sins you can’t go to heaven anyway so he’s glad you’re going to burn in the lake of blue fire forever.
Your ex-friend (because Biggie Smurf told me I couldn’t be friends with you anymore),
Are you as appalled as I am?
Disturbing, shocking, and horrifying all at the same time. People don’t get to decide the preacher for some event, the Holy Spirit does. These people must all be emergents, because no one from the Reformed tradition (in its many manifestations) could participate in such un-scriptural heresy!
Nominate speakers indeed. Why not just toss out the Bible too and have the elected speaker ‘preach’ from the Reader’s Digest.
Or rather, ever been subjected to. Seriously, the people who produced the garbage called the ‘Chronicle Project’ demonstrate both the ignorance of the dilettantes and the arrogance of the unlearned. The less informed people such as these are, the more they insist that everyone who has come before them has been completely wrong. As though wisdom only came with them. Ignorant dullards and winners of the Dilly Award this week (and forever).
For Christians, for the Church, such a reason is totally inadequate and totally inappropriate. More correctly, teens and unmarried persons should abstain from sexual activity because such activity is contrary to the purpose and will of God and is in fact sin.
When we tell people to abstain in order to avoid pregnancy we make the commandment of God of no account. This is utterly inexcusable for Christians, theologians and the Church.
The ‘practical’ reason for abstinence, the avoidance of an unwanted child, is a reason completely foreign to the biblical revelation. Not once will anyone read anywhere in any Scripture in any legitimate translation that the reason to avoid sexual activity is pregnancy. Rather, the reason is simpler and more profound: God commands it.
And why does God command it? Because the human body is made for more than just the satisfaction of desires. We are made to glorify God, yes, even in our bodies. To degrade that high calling and to behave as nothing more than a dog on the street in heat is to demean ourselves and treat contemptuously the image of God.
So, instead of telling teens (and unmarrieds) to avoid sex so they don’t have a child to care for- we are supposed to tell them to refrain from sexual activity because God wishes it. And his wishes supersede yours. Always.
As expected. Thank you, Tea party. Thank you, Congress. Thank you, White House. I wasn’t going to retire anyway.
U.S. stocks plunged sharply Monday, the first Wall Street reaction to the United States losing its coveted “AAA” credit rating. All three major U.S. stock indexes were down between 3% and 4% in the first few hours of trading — adding to brutal losses last week. Experts say the downgrade by itself shouldn’t matter, that it was expected and that the United States still has a strong credit rating.
But why, Geitner said everything would be ok…
But the market wasn’t buying it. “Investors are having one reaction to the downgrade: sell first and ask questions later,” said Paul Zemsky, head of asset allocation with ING Investment Management. Even if investors dismissed the downgrade, they’d still have to contend with the European debt crisis and rising fears of a new recession in the United States.
Oh well. You reap what you sow.
Or at least that’s what BAR or Jacobovici will claim as soon as they hear about the discovery of a Roman sword and menorah found under the streets of Jerusalem. After all, the nail found in an ossuary has been claimed by simple Simcha to be the very nail used in Jesus’ crucifixion… so nothing – not even the facts or evidence – can stop him from making the same sort of claim now.
For the truth, though, turn to the Israel Antiquities Authority, which announces
During the course of work the Israel Antiquities Authority carried out in Jerusalem’s ancient drainage channel, which begins in the Siloam Pool and runs from the City of David to the archaeological garden (near the Western Wall), impressive finds were recently discovered that breathe new life into the story of the destruction of the Second Temple. The excavations are being conducted on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, in cooperation with the Nature and Parks Authority and are underwritten by the City of David Foundation.
A 2,000 year old iron sword, still in its leather scabbard, was discovered in work the Israel Antiquities Authority is doing in the channel, which served as a hiding refuge for the residents of Jerusalem from the Romans at the time of the Second Temple’s destruction. In addition, parts of the belt that carried the sword were found. According to the excavation directors Eli Shukron of the Israel Antiquities Authority and Professor Ronny Reich of the University of Haifa, “It seems that the sword belonged to an infantryman of the Roman garrison stationed in Israel at the outbreak of the Great Revolt against the Romans in 66 CE. The sword’s fine state of preservation is surprising: not only its length (c. 60 cm), but also the preservation of the leather scabbard (a material that generally disintegrates quickly over time) and some of its decoration”.
A stone object adorned with a rare engraving of a menorah was found in the soil beneath the street, on the side of the drainage channel. According to Shukron and Professor Reich, “Interestingly, even though we are dealing with a depiction of the seven-branched candelabrum, only five branches appear here. The portrayal of the menorah’s base is extremely important because it clarifies what the base of the original menorah looked like, which was apparently tripod shaped”. The fact that the stone object was found at the closest proximity to the Temple Mount to date is also important. The researchers suppose a passerby who saw the menorah with his own eyes and was amazed by its beauty incised his impressions on a stone and afterwards tossed his scrawling to the side of the road, without imagining that his creation would be found 2,000 years later.

Since the government of the United States has drifted so far from its actual purpose, I thought a reminder from the sages who compiled the Belgic Confession would be nice:
Article 36: The Civil Government
We believe that because of the depravity of the human race our good God has ordained kings, princes, and civil officers. He wants the world to be governed by laws and policies so that human lawlessness may be restrained and that everything may be conducted in good order among human beings. For that purpose he has placed the sword in the hands of the government, to punish evil people and protect the good. And being called in this manner to contribute to the advancement of a society that is pleasing to God, the civil rulers have the task, subject to God’s law, of removing every obstacle to the preaching of the gospel and to every aspect of divine worship.
They should do this while completely refraining from every tendency toward exercising absolute authority, and while functioning in the sphere entrusted to them, with the means belonging to them.
And the government’s task is not limited to caring for and watching over the public domain but extends also to upholding the sacred ministry, with a view to removing and destroying all idolatry and false worship of the Antichrist; to promoting the kingdom of Jesus Christ; and to furthering the preaching of the gospel everywhere; to the end that God may be honored and served by everyone, as he requires in his Word. Moreover everyone, regardless of status, condition, or rank, must be subject to the government, and pay taxes, and hold its representatives in honor and respect, and obey them in all things that are not in conflict with God’s Word, praying for them that the Lord may be willing to lead them in all their ways and that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all piety and decency.
And on this matter we denounce the Anabaptists, other anarchists, and in general all those who want to reject the authorities and civil officers and to subvert justice by introducing common ownership of goods and corrupting the moral order that God has established among human beings.
It’s patently obvious that our government no longer punishes evil and upholds the freedom of the Gospel but instead has become something altogether different. And that’s a real shame. It means that whenever the government acts in a way contrary to the Gospel, Christians are free to ignore it. Indeed, they are obliged to.

Just in case that simple truth needs further proof–
A cleaner who beat an 82-year-old widower to death before burying him in the garden so she could get his money was jailed for life today. Ann Browning, 54, was ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years for the ”wicked murder” of retired postman William Williamson after a judge at Guildford Crown Court ruled she planned the killing for financial gain. Browning, of Miltons Crescent, Ockford Ridge, Surrey, had pleaded guilty to murder but denied the crime was financially motivated. She claimed she beat Mr Williamson with a plastic rounders bat in a temper and then buried his body in her garden to cover up her crime.
Browning beat Mr Williamson repeatedly round the head and body. … She then stripped him naked, bound his legs with a belt, wrapped him in a shower curtain and put him head-first into a grave she had dug in the back garden of the home they shared.
Murder for money. T.D.
Their baby arrived today and we’re all very happy for them!
