They’re in the News, But Who are the Copts?

The Guardian has a nice piece answering that question.

Attacks on churches, communal divisions – Cairo has recently seen conflicts between some Muslims and Coptic Christians. But who exactly are the Copts and how did they come to be in Egypt? Part of the answer lies in Coptic art.

It’s fairly long but worth the time.

  1. I have some Coptic Orthodox friends in Egypt! They are historically profound, and very interesting certainly. We should note here their different position concerning Chalcedon, they are Miaphysite and follow Cyril of Alexandria: ‘one incarnate nature of God the Logos/Word’. So miaphysite is thus simply, that Christ has one united nature out of two: divinity and humanity. Still very “orthodox” itself!
