Rep. Chris Lee, R-N.Y., resigned from Congress after a report emerged that he had sent flirtatious emails, including one with a bare-chested photo of himself, to a woman he met on Craigslist.
Ok not to sound like I’m all Mr Permissive and all that, but what’s the prob? Dude wants to show off to a potential mate. It’s like going to the beach… No biggie.
Oh no, wait, there’s more…
Lee is married and has a child.
Ah, well then Houston, we have a problem… Stupid politicians. Stupid.
I have to be honest- there are people I would like to throttle and worse. Seriously. But always such thoughts assail me when some child is mistreated by so called family members. Take, for instance, the totally depraved and utterly vile ‘grandparents’ in Ohio who kept their 9 year old girl locked and barricaded in a bathroom for 6 years. That means they started when she was 3..
An Ohio couple who kept a 9-year-old girl in a barricaded bathroom for years when she wasn’t in school are in jail after the girl told a school nurse about how she was being treated, police said Wednesday.
If you don’t want your children, you subhuman beasts, give them to someone who does.
Dayton police Sgt. Larry Tolpin said Brian G. Hart, 50 and Rivae Hart, 49, were in the Montgomery County jail on kidnapping and child endangering charges under $50,000 bond. No attorney was listed for them. The girl, Rivae Hart’s granddaughter, was kept in an area consisting of a half-bathroom and a small edge of a hallway blocked by two stacked dressers topped by a wooden mattress board, Tolpin said Wednesday. He said the girl slept on a cot with only a blanket. “It was a deplorable situation,” Tolpin said.
I’m afraid I would hurt them. Violently. Child abusers should be summarily executed (by the State, of course). Some people are worse than wild dogs and need to be put down for the well being of the entire society.
If you could only measure how much stories like these infuriate me…
A Senator down in Alabama thought he would be clever and suggest that the solution to illegal immigration was to ’empty the clip’. And then he backpeddled and said that he meant that in a totally non-violent way. As if people are stupid enough to buy that (any more than they bought Palin’s idiotic comment about her gun-sights ad).
An Alabama legislator said it’s time to “empty the clip” when addressing illegal immigration, but he says he wasn’t advocating violence. Others found his remarks frightening after a deadly Arizona rampage. Sen. Scott Beason said Tuesday he used the phrase in a weekend speech to the Cullman County Republican Club, but not in the sense of firing all the ammunition in a weapon. He said he meant that it will take a wide array of government action to solve illegal immigration and other problems.
Everyone knows what ’empty the clip’ means. And even if the Senator did mean it as he suggests, he’s not very bright to use that phrase at all. It’s akin to visiting a victim of rape and suggesting that the court will ‘rape the man who did this to you’.
We could wonder why America has politicians like this but then we would have to admit that the old saying, ‘people get the leadership they deserve’, is true…
Because the Vatican says a hearty hey ho heck no!
The Vatican put its foot down Wednesday over the idea of “confessing” by iPhone, after news that US users can now download an application for the Apple gadget that helps the faithful gain absolution. “It is essential to understand that the rites of penance require a personal dialogue between penitents and their confessor… It cannot be replaced by a computer application,” Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told journalists. “I must stress to avoid all ambiguity, under no circumstance is it possible to ‘confess by iPhone’,” he said.
Whoever came up with (0r downloaded) the stupid ap has absolutely no understanding at all about the act of confession or penance. None. The dimwits.
Anyway, all those Dreckish doofs who thought it a good idea (let’s call them ’emergent’ Catholics) – forget about it. It ain’t happening.
And if they have the opportunity, they repay them for their evil.
A man convicted with imprisoning his daughter and fathering seven children with her was one of the six inmates killed earlier this week in a prison riot in northeastern Brazil, authorities said Wednesday. Maranhao state public safety spokeswoman Maud Zaiban said that Jose Agostinho Pereira was decapitated by fellow inmates who broke into his cell in the city of Pinheiro. In June, Pereira was charged with imprisoning his daughter for 12 years in his home and fathering her seven children. Prosecutors have said he also abused two of the children he had with his daughter. He was convicted in December and sentenced to 30 years in prison on sex abuse charges and of depriving his daughter of her freedom through “private incarceration”.
You reap what you sow, even in the pen. What happened to him still wasn’t as awful as what he did to his own children. And now his case has been adjudicated by God. Doubtless with – to him – startling results.
U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, recovering from a gunshot wound to the head January 8, is regaining part of her ability to speak, her spokesman said Wednesday. C.J. Karamargin would not divulge what Giffords has said, other than saying she asked for toast.
Joseph Lauer sends along his translation of an IAA press release-
During the course of an ongoing monitoring operation an IAA inspector, Nir Distelfeld (?), recently visited one of the caves undergoing preservation outside the boundaries of the Beit Shearim national park. He heard a conversation between a resident of Tivon and another person. In the conversation the Tivon resident said that when houses on Yizrael street were being constructed they came upon many caves during the excavations for foundations and from one of the caves he removed an ossuary that was now in his possession. Distelfeld hurried to identify himself as an employee of the IAA’s theft prevention unit and asked to see the find. The Tivon resident acceded to the request and invited the IAA inspector to his home. After the citizen understood the importance of the find from the archaeological and research point of view he offered to return the ossuary to the national collection and to give it to the IAA. The ossuary was given by the good citizen to the IAA and after it will be researched, conserved and catalogued by IAA experts it will be displayed in one of the caves in the Beit Shearim national park.
The ossuary possesses unusual dimensions and served as the resting place for human skeletal remains. The minimal size of the ossuary is about the length of the longest bone (the femur) and the width of the widest bone (the pelvis). In the first century CE the use of ossuaries was widespread in the Jewish world in Eretz Yisrael as a central part of a “secondary burial”. Many Jewish sources explain that secondary burial was popular at the end of the Second Temple era, and was called “likkut atzamot” (bone gathering).

By Dana Milbank of the Washington Post for what he calls her ideological transformation. It must be the decade of the transformers, because Obama’s been transformed too- from advocate of the middle and lower classes to the advocate of the upper and Wall Street classes.
Anyway, Milbank observes
Did Arianna Huffington just sell out her fellow progressives? In the literal sense, she undoubtedly has: The sale of Huffington Post to AOL for $315 million (including a large pile of cash going to Huffington herself) means this powerful liberal voice is formally joining the “corporate media” its writers have long disparaged. There are also some indications that she has sold out in the ideological sense and committed the Huffington Post to joining the mainstream media – the evil “MSM” of “HuffPo” blogger ire. Announcing the deal, she and her new boss went out of their way to say that the new Huffington Post would emphasize things other than the liberal politics on which the brand was built.
He’s not wrong, you know. But everyone has a price. Well almost everyone. Do read the rest of Milbank’s thrashing of her.
Miriam O’Reilly (no relation to Bill) learned that lesson the hard way.
One colleague offered her hair dye. Another told her “it’s time for botox.” A third said her wrinkles could be a problem in this new era of high-definition TV. Veteran TV presenter Miriam O’Reilly was eventually taken off air, and she decided to fight back – challenging the venerable BBC in a closely watched age-discrimination case. Last month, a British employment tribunal ruled in her favor in a decision that provides fodder in a growing debate about age-discrimination in TV and film. “The worldwide trend is to move away from age-based decisions in employment,” said Martin Levine, a professor of law and gerontology at the University of Southern California, especially as many countries end mandatory retirement ages.
What should we expect? Every advert and every interest these days is youth oriented. Youthfulness is worshiped like some sort of pagan god and nearly everyone bows at the altar of looking or acting younger than they are. Hair dyes and fashions and tv and radio and the internet and everything else (including too many churches) are all tooled for the young. Youth-ianity is the mass religion of the western world. People being sacked because they aren’t young is to be expected in this depraved world that doesn’t value anything but appearance. Substance comes second to form.
He’s taken a page from the book of Mark Stevens and set out to hawk ‘miracle manna’!
Bad Scott, bad! Now you’ll surely get rich and you won’t care about us poor people. Via Michael Acidri on FB.
If you thought there were loony people amongst the ranks of Christian and Muslim fundamentalists, ‘you ain’t seen nothin’ yet‘. Anti-web ultra orthodox Jews are pulling out all the stops in their latest campaign for ignorance and idiocy.
The Internet causes draught and terminal disease – so claims a new marketing campaign publicized in the ultra-Orthodox community and aims to curb use of the world wide web “Where there is Internet, there are no rains,” read one of the posters that were pasted in central haredi spots. “Let’s remove the idolatry from among us. Hundreds of thousands of cancer patients (suffer) because of the Internet.”
Here’s a doozy…
“The connection to the Internet is an abomination, and the one who does it in his home brings abomination into his home,” Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv was quoted as saying.
Crackpotism isn’t the purview of Christian and Muslim aluminum foil hat wearers alone.
That’s what a South Carolina mother of two did to her newest baby at the circus.
A quick-thinking cleaning crew is credited for saving the life of a newborn boy left abandoned and choking in the cold water of a South Carolina sports arena toilet. “They did save the life of that child,” Greenville Police Chief Terri Wilfong said late Tuesday. A 25-year-old married mother of a 4-year-old faces charges of giving birth in the toilet to the 6-pound boy and leaving it to die. By calling for help, the crew got information to help get the baby warm and keep it breathing, the police chief said. Authorities declined to immediately identify the workers. The infant was hospitalized and in good condition, Wilfong told reporters at police headquarters. The stateDepartment of Social Services is in charge of the baby.
Who’s sure not to be nominated mom of the year?
Jessica Blackham, who has no criminal record, was arrested after she came to the Greenville police station accompanied by family members, Wilfong said. “The family is very cooperative with us,” Wilfong said. “Their concern is the safety of the child.” Blackham is charged with two counts of felony child abuse and one count of unlawful neglect toward a child. If convicted on all charges, she could face up to 50 years in prison.
Maybe it’s more accurate to say she ‘had’ no criminal record. Appalling behavior and worse than merely criminal, it’s totally depraved.
[If this appalls you, why doesn’t abortion?]
A fascinating report on NPR this morning highlights the tragic fact that the US is more concerned with pursuing its national interests abroad than it is in supporting emerging democracies.
For U.S. policymakers trying to gauge how American interests are at stake in Egypt, the popular uprising there is a tale of two risks. The democratic process, if allowed to run its course, could bring to power a new government unsupportive of U.S. priorities. But if the democratic process in Egypt is blocked, the outcome could be equally damaging to U.S. interests. The uncertainty over the Egyptian scenarios has brought even the most hardheaded foreign policy analysts to different conclusions. The U.S. aims in Egypt are longstanding and clear: maintaining peace with Israel, keeping the Suez Canal open, and supporting U.S. and allied efforts against al-Qaida and other extremist groups. Republican and Democratic administrations alike have seen these as vital U.S. interests, and they have consistently ranked them above the promotion of human rights and democracy. In practice, this has meant supporting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, no matter his faults.
In short, we would rather support a tyrant who does what we want than a democratic movement that may not be our puppet. So much, then, for America’s grand talk about wanting democracy all around the globe. We really don’t. We want tools so we can implement our foreign policy without interference. And that’s quite shameful.
So, to the rising democracies around the world, I apologize on behalf of the good people of the US who value true freedom above imperialism. Choose your own paths. You may not get foreign aid, but you’ll have freedom of choice- and that’s more valuable.
Al-Jazeera reports this morning
Protests in Egypt have entered their sixteenth day, following probably the biggest number of pro-democracy demonstrators in Cairo’s Tahrir [Liberation] Square yet. The square resembled a tented city on Wednesday, with protesters refusing to budge until their demands for Hosni Mubarak’s resignation were met. The president’s message has thus far been that he will not leave until his term expires in September. Hoda Abdel-Hamid, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in the Egyptian capital, said the crowd at Tahrir Square grew rapidly on Tuesday afternoon, with many first-timers joining the demonstrations. Many feel this showed that the movement, now in its third week, still has momentum.
Nonetheless, Mubarak is unmoved and unmovable. Stay tuned…
Police in America are investigating the death of a 20-year-old British woman who had a silicone injection into her buttocks at a hotel in Philadelphia. Detectives say the woman and three companions had travelled from London and were staying at the Hampton Inn, close to the city’s airport. The woman, who has not been named, had the procedure on Monday while one of her travelling companions had a hip augmentation. Detective Joseph Murray said the woman became unwell shortly after the injections and was taken to a nearby hospital. However, she died early on Tuesday morning, he said.
Augmenting behinds and hips and lips and pretending that the natural process of aging isn’t happening… see what vanity does. It kills. Sometimes literally.
So, frankly, I can’t fault those in Congress seeking to close loopholes in the law which make it possible for federal dollars to be used for abortions.
House Republicans formally launch their latest effort to roll back abortion rights this week, and they’re aiming squarely for the tax code. On the docket already are two bills: One would make permanent the decades-old “Hyde amendment,” which is currently added every year to federal spending bills and bars most federal abortion funding. The other bill seeks to close what abortion opponents say are “loopholes” in last year’s health overhaul that could permit federal funds to flow for abortions.
In my estimation your right to have casual sex and dispose of the unwanted outcome of that liaison is outweighed by the right of a child to life. And I say that without apology.
