No Need for Steve Jobs to Pretend He’s Magnanimous…

Steve Jobs while introducing the iPad in San F...

Who can he dupe today?

He can easily afford to take a $1 salary since he’s already a billionaire a dozen times over and his income from the simple interest from stocks and bonds is enough to tide over a small country for a year.

This sort of narcissistic showing off is nothing but a manipulative publicity stunt.  If he really wanted to show the world what a good guy he was, he would give iPads away for a year.  Let’s see him to that.  Then I’ll admit he’s more than a show-man.

He’s always taken $1 salary, as far as I’m aware. Even in the early 90s when he was pretty much paying a lot of money to keep his companies (NeXT and Pixar) going, and neither company was profitable yet (ie, before Pixar put out Toy Story or IPO’d, and before NeXT was bought by Apple.) At that point, of course, it was likely a better use of the money. Instead of a bloated check for himself, he could hire more staff or pay them better.

It’s probably a holdover of his 60s/70s hippy roots, his backpacking trip to India, etc.

Oh, also: Neither Jobs nor Apple make a big deal about it. They put it in their SEC filings, because they have to by law. That’s where the media found out about it.
