About 13.4 million taxpayers may be getting unexpected tax bills because they were awarded too much money under President Barack Obama’s Making Work Pay tax credit, a government audit said Thursday. The tax credit, which expires Jan. 1, was designed to increase take-home pay by about $8 a week through new tax withholding tables. The credit was capped at $400 for individuals and $800 for married couples filing jointly. However, the credit put millions of taxpayers at risk for not having enough taxes withheld from their paychecks, resulting in a tax bill when they file their returns, said the audit by J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. Those at risk included people with multiple jobs, married couples who both work, Social Security recipients who also work, and young workers who are also claimed as dependents on their parents’ tax returns.
Don’t worry though! And don’t lose any sleep over it!!!! Because, rest assured, rich folk won’t be affected at all. They’ll get all the breaks Congress and the White House can muster… [Feckless idiotic government].
A JMU prof has lost her job for teaching under the influence. Click the video and enjoy. I’m sure she didn’t mean any harm… she teaches at an ‘accredited’ school and they’re above reproach and the gold standard of education, right?
Every sin affects everyone around it– sometimes with the most horrific consequences. Take, for instance, the cheating fiancée and the consequences of her sin for her future husband.
Dale Roberts, the 24-year-old goalkeeper for non-league UK soccer team Rushden and Diamonds, reportedly hanged himself Tuesday in his home after discovering his fiancee’s affair with teammate Paul Terry, according to The Daily Mail. Roberts’ 25-year-old fiancee Lindsey Cowan left him in May after she slept with Terry in the couple’s home. Roberts was said to have been “heartbroken by the split and struggled to cope with losing his fiancée.” After Cowan admitted the affair to Roberts, he refused to play alongside Terry, who is the brother of Chelsea star John Terry. Roberts was found dead in his home and police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.
So sad. And yet another bit of evidence that any time people imagine that there’s such a thing as private sin, they deceive themselves. Her cheating killed him just as surely as if she had put a gun to his head.
Check it out! It’s a very fine book and if you haven’t read it, you really ought to.
And Bob is not at all impressed. Nor should he be. Nor should anyone be. Be sure to read Bob’s posts and enjoy his clarity and insightful evaluation of Driscoll’s heretical misrepresentations. Bob sums up what the rest of us see too-
… if you want to learn all the important things about being a leader like mark driscoll, like how to handle ‘people needing you’ (see the 1:39 mark in the video), then sign up [for Driscoll’s nonsense]. because the world needs more
white, maleleaders like mark driscoll (as difficult as that can be). just remember, make sure you bring your testicles, because every fundamentalist knows that it is in the testicles where the leadership authority of the holy spirit truly resides.
At some point we all must ask- what possesses a person so that they think such things are a good idea? Via Laine Clayton on FB.
Or maybe they’ve just gone on vacation, or are in the ‘summer chamber’. In any event, Facebook isn’t responding and the only thing I get is an empty page.
UPDATE: And now it’s back. They returned from the ‘summer chamber’. Probably had to go drag that ‘Person of the Year’ Award Time gave Zuckerberg out of the toilet where someone had rightly tossed it along with its likenesses.
Which I found here and am keeping for my very own. Expect to see it regularly.
Of course that applies to nearly everything doesn’t it? But The Gap’s ‘Feed America’ campaign should have checked to see if their ad campaign materials provider used Made in the USA products before they started marketing them… Here’s the story-
Gap’s well-meaning anti-hunger charity campaign FEED USA has hit a bit of a messaging road bump. The FEED USA bags that are intended to raise money for the country’s school lunch programs were made in China, not America, despite promotional materials that declared otherwise, according to a photo snapped by one eagle-eyed shopper, shown. The patriotic bags adorned with American flags are advertised with materials that proclaim they are “Made in USA”. … The bags cost between $19.50 to $39.50, and for each bag bought, $5 goes to school lunch programs.
And even more than that goes to The Gap (and their Chinese providers). I suppose The Gap lives by the motto ‘charity begins at (the) home (office).
It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last I’m sure, but it is interesting. It all came about because the commentator Jeff was disgruntled that I removed his comments from an earlier post because he – while cowering behind ‘anonymity’, felt free to insult.
You can see in the comments screenshot (click to enlarge) that Jeff posted one comment using his name and email address (and of course WordPress also includes the IP address of every commentator or would be commentator). Then, he made his not so veiled threat using a fraudulent name and email address… but from the same IP address.
What this demonstrates is that 1) some viewers of Fox News are given to instability when they don’t get their way. 2), That they are willing to threaten people with violence. And 3), that I for one won’t let their works of darkness stay in the dark.
So, if anything should happen to yours truly, I think you can alert the police where to begin their search.

And a Merry Christmas to you all as well!
That’s the title of a recent book excerpted over at Bible and Interpretation.
For the search for them does not die, and indeed even seems to intensify and take on new forms and incarnations with each twist of history. The two elements undergirding their story —the geographic and the theological; the mystery concerning the tribes’ whereabouts, and the messianic and apocalyptic beliefs attached to their return—turned the ten tribes into a very hot topic from the moment the Bible became canonic for both Judaism and Christianity.
Give it a read.
I wasn’t aware of this little plunge into darkness till today. It’s a site which features Fox News headlines followed by actual comments left by Fox News viewers… Prepare, before you go there to kill some time (and brain cells) – some of the ‘people’ are beyond belief. For instance- here’s an actual Fox headline-
Headline: Border Patrol Agent Killed in Southern Arizona
and here’s the unsurprising (given the audience) comment…
Oh don’t worry – there are far worse. All of which strongly suggests that not only are many Fox viewers unhinged, the posting of anonymous comments simply shouldn’t be allowed. People who say such things should be held completely accountable for them. Their names should be available. If they were, perhaps such idiocy wouldn’t be displayed.

4 Enoch: The Online Encyclopedia of Second Temple Judaism and Christian Origins – http://www.4enoch.org – is an academic project of the Enoch Seminar, created and directed by Gabriele Boccaccini (University of Michigan, USA) with the late Hanan Eshel (Bar-Ilan University, Israel) and Loren T. Stuckenbruck (Princeton Theological Seminary, USA). Born as a bibliography in the early 1990s and developed as a database in the 2000s, 4 Enoch has been made freely accessible online in wiki-format since August 2009.
The online Encyclopedia aims to offer a comprehensive and authoritative introduction to scholarly research in Second Temple Judaism and Christian Origins, i.e. from Ezekiel to the completion of the New Testament and the Mishnah. With more than 9,000 entries, “4 Enoch” provides a comprehensive Who’s Who of the period, as well as Biographies of Scholars and Authors, and Abstracts of scholarly and fictional Works, authored from the mid-15th century to the present, all around the world. The Encyclopedia is the collective work of international specialists in the field, who sign their own contributions.
We welcome new contributors. Please, contact Gabriele Boccaccini – email@example.com.
I’ll add that it’s a fantastic resource. And very, very much worth your learned participation.
Or go to prison!
Thanks to Phil (who left this gem in comments but it deserves wider viewing).
Is a volume edited by Nathan MacDonald and others titled, Genesis and Christian Theology (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, forthcoming 2012). Keep your eyes open for it. MacDonald is a fantastic scholar and no one knows more about the subject than he (except Gerhard von Rad… but he, sadly, is no longer working).
You’re doing a fantastic job of making it warmer!
Primetime TV shows that appeal to teenagers are promoting the “sexualization” of girls at an alarming rate, including more portrayals of underage females being objectified than adults, especially for laughs, according to the Parents Television Council.
PTC analysts looked at the top 14 scripted shows that Nielsen identified as being popular among children 12-17, including “The Office,” “NCIS,” “Two and a Half Men,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “The Vampire Diaries.” “Underage female characters are shown participating in a higher percentage of sexual depictions compared to adults,” according to the study, called Sexualized Teen Girls: Tinseltown’s New Target. The PTC argues that girls are increasingly shown as having their worth dependent upon their sexuality, a media phenomenon it says leads to passivity, depression, eating disorders and low self-esteem. The report notes that 73 percent of televised sexual incidents that involved girls under 18 were designed to be funny, thus using “laughter to desensitize and trivialize topics that might normally be viewed as disturbing.”
Sex is not a joke. And the sexualization of pre-teens is utterly inappropriate. If we, as a society, won’t tolerated pedophilia, then we need to stop feeding pedophiles sexualized pre-teens in our prime time TV programs (or any time programs for that matter).

Burglars aren’t the cleverest people as it is, but a burglar ridiculous enough to rob a house and then brag about it on Facebook, including posting photos of himself and his loot, has to take the stupid prize.
“I’ve seen a lot, but this is the most stupid criminal I’ve ever seen,” marveled D.C. police Officer Kyle Roe, who stayed with us [the victims of the crime] for hours as we waited for the crime scene technician, who painstakingly lifted dozens of fingerprints from nearly every room in the house.
Here’s a photo of the moron-
You’d think the cops would have the feckless thug in custody, right? Wrong. The essayist continues
I thought this was as close to a slam-dunk case as there could ever be. I thought that by handing over the photo, I was delivering the police an instant arrest. I thought wrong. Two officers confided that they and their colleagues rarely press hard on burglary cases because the courts almost always let thieves go with nothing more than probation. Maybe that’s why four days after we handed over the photo, we were still waiting to hear from the detective assigned to the case.
So ‘law enforcement’ doesn’t mean that at all does it? What are the cops busy doing? They aren’t arresting criminals. Even when they have brilliant evidence. They must be at the local donut shop getting fatter than they already are… So perhaps the police are accomplices to crimes, along with prosecutors and judges who don’t enforce the law or punish criminals.
So since the police won’t do anything to bring such crimes to an end, be on the lookout for the hoodlum above. He’s probably casing houses right now and chuckling to himself at the ‘law enforcement’ establishment.
