No They Aren’t, They are Cartoons

Homer Simpson

If he's Catholic, can he be the next Pope?

Things have come to a sad state when the Vatican announces that cartoon characters are Catholic. Come on, Vatican, are you really that desperate for church members that you’re willing to lasso fictional characters?

“The Simpsons” just got a blessing from the Vatican. The official Vatican newspaper has declared that beer-swilling, doughnut-loving Homer Simpson and son Bart are Catholics — and what’s more, it says that parents should not be afraid to let their children watch “the adventures of the little guys in yellow.” “Few people know it, and he does everything to hide it. But it’s true: Homer J. Simpson is Catholic”, the Osservatore Romano newspaper said in an article on Sunday headlined “Homer and Bart are Catholics.”

Good grief.

At the risk of ridicule, I have watched this show for years and Lisa is Buddhist and the rest of the family attend a non denominational protestant church.

WHAT!?! How could you have never watched ‘The Simpsons’? If you want to watch it over here, all you have to do is tune in to Channel Ten, and it usually airs at around 6pm; in between ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘The Simpsons’. But it’s okay if you miss it, you can just tune in later, after ‘The Simpsons’ and it’s sure to be on.

(If your getting the hint that it is repeated ad nauseam on our telly, then you’d be on the right track).

I’ve never watched it either. Don’t have TV, don’t care, don’t want one. The only cartoon I like is Footrot Flats – it’s antipodian and involved a dog called Dog and a farming bloke in gumboots. Bogor, also Kiwi, is good too – a hedgehog like those things what get squished in the road.
