If Eve Were Still Alive, She’d Be 200,000

Your mom Eve.... Looks different, doesn't she?

So says science!

Oh science, you make me laugh. With your impossible to verify theories and suppositions and claims. You remind me of certain ‘biblical archaeologists’.

A maternal ancestor to all living humans called mitochondrial Eve likely lived about 200,000 years ago, at roughly the same time anatomically modern humans are believed to have emerged, a new review study confirms. The results are based on analyses of mitochondrial DNA. Found in the energy-producing centers of cells, mitochondrial DNA is only passed down the maternal line, and can be traced back to one woman. However, this doesn’t mean she was the first modern woman, rather it indicates that only her descendants survive to the present day. “There is always some other female that predated mitochondrial Eve, whose DNA didn’t make it up to modernity,” said Marek Kimmel, a professor of statistics at Rice University. “So the age of the mitochondrial Eve is always less than the age of the true, first female modern human.”

I love the way they hedge their bets with all kinds of escape clauses: ‘likely’ and ‘roughly’ and ‘however’ and ‘always some other’. So what science tells us is a load of unsubstantiated, and unsubstantiate-able hooey.  And people trust it…  Now that takes faith!

Sounds too like modern, postmodern, and today’s theology! i.e. “likely”, “roughly”, etc.

Thanks for pointing out once more that scientists are fallible. Some folks today in the academic world seem to think that the only people without bias are the scientists and that the “consensus” of the scientific community is the final arbiter of all truth.

Rice pudding science. Best made with lots of milk so it’s a little bit runny and baked for ages so it emerges with a fine brown skin. Let’s have a rice pudding party – anyone got 200,000 candles?

My Father was a scientist, and he was a great man, to me, but oh hardly infallible. Our great theolog’s are the same, just men, with feet of clay. Only the Word and Revelation of God is infallible! (Though today, many, are trying to undermine that reality also. But, only to their own mistake, and sadly doom!)

Greg: which “folks today in the academic world” would they be?

But, Jim, if scientists are wrong about this, then they are wrong about everything. Wait.. no, that’s the Creationist statement about the bible.

naaa Joel – you belong to the academic world therefore you think it is without bias and the truth because no academics are capable of independent thinking and live in their ivory towers thinking anything called science is automatically the ‘truth’ and not that science is all about hypotheses. 😉

Wait, Steph… am I in the academic world? Oh man… now I am going to hell because that is what we must repent from, intellectualism (no joke, had a commentator tell me that).

some people are idiots unworthy of commenting bandwidth.

Hahaha Nathan Bupp, spokesperson for your american ‘Center for Inquiry’ (or bunch of atheist Conspiracy-believing, Fear-mongering, Idiots), rubbished academia(!!) and accused me of being on the ‘academic left’ (which sent Maurice into hoots of laughter) and then said “The academic left has become destructive to Western values. And yes, I’m not ashamed to say that the West is the best!” Ugggh. Anti intellectualism, anti religion at its worst – and a Lee ‘Smartfringe’ (!!!!) obsessed with the american idea that one must be on the right or the left, said academia destroys freedom … they were both promoting some conspiracy theory over the mosque and posting silly bananarama dressed up as pyjama you tube videos as evidence of an Islamic takeover. Oooooo be very afraid (of the Fly).
