Wanting an all out war with the Arab world? What dimwit issued the order?
Anxious to head off a diplomatic crisis with Egypt, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak issued a statement Saturday expressing regret for the deaths of Egyptian security personnel in a border incident following a deadly raid in Israel. It also promised a joint investigation of the incident and commended Egypt’s conduct in the relationship with Israel.
An apology? Ask Israel if it will accept an apology from Hamas. What multi-sided madness.
Jim,
This whole situation is simply lopsided and once again, it is a pity, but all too common, that you “buy” this interpretation of what happened. A major terrorist attack was conducted from EGYPTIAN territory against Israel (and aimed at clearly civilian territory), by terrorists who crossed over from Egypt, utilizing the anarchy and lawlessness in Sinai due to the Egyptians not doing their part of keeping up the peace treaty. Some of the terrorists were located RIGHT next to Egyptian outposts and wore Egyptian army uniforms. Instead of Egypt apologizing for allowing terrorists (about 20) to enter and attack Israel from their territory, they are turning the main issue into the fact that when the Israeli forces were firing back at the terrorists, some who had crossed over to the Israeli side and some who were laying down cover fire from the Egyptian side, Egyptian policemen were accidentally killed (but it is still being investigated whether they may have even had joined in shooting at the Israelis – since the Egyptian police in Sinai are notoriously known to be “bribable” and they may have been in cahoots with the terrorists)!!!
It is SO convenient to buy into the NEWSPEAK perspective that is coming out of the blatantly anti-Israel and anti-semitic narrative current in contemporary Egyptian politics (they need a convenient target to blame for the horrible inequalities of Egyptian society and Israel is very convenient).
Once again, I do suggest you try to be a little less one sided in how your interpret the news coming from the middle east…
Saw that you unfortunately ‘lost’ my comment that I’d posted before, so I’ll try to repost. I really do believe it is relevant and that in the interest of fairness – as well as in emphasizing the unfortunate radicalness of Mideast politics and bad solutions amongst ALL factions – that this little tidbit on Turkeys incursion across the border of the sovereign nation of Iraq be shared.
