Even if those principles bring them into conflict with the views of the larger society.
“Goshen College has been and remains a ministry of Mennonite Church USA with an enduring peace tradition,” Carlos Romero, executive director of the Mennonite Education Agency said in a statement. “The Board’s decision reflects a belief that faith and honoring country can co-exist without disturbing higher allegiances to God and that Goshen College will become increasingly diverse and will welcome diverse viewpoints.”
American Christians tend to exaggerate patriotism (which is in itself a good thing) to the status of a religion (which is a terribly bad thing). Some even believe that the Constitution deserves to be taken more seriously than Scripture. That, of course, is nothing but the crudest sort of idolatry.
So, hats off to you, Goshen College, for having principles and standing by them. How different you are from the atheist University recently sprung from depraved minds in Britain where not only are principles ignored, the principle of honesty itself is abandoned.

Ah, your positively Freudian relationship with the Anabaptists revealed for all to see
Soon we’ll be welcoming you back to Mother Churches
