Atheists don’t want folk running around burning the Qur’an because that’s ‘crazy’ but it’s ok if the Bible is burned. Anyone should be allowed to burn the Bible or Huck Finn if they want.
Duane Smith provides the proof that atheists (and he represents atheists because he is one) want anything but Christianity tolerated. He writes on 7 September
In reaction to the crazy and dangerous suggestion that people here in America burn the Qur’an on September 11 of this year, I think I will reread the Qur’an on that day.
Those are his words. ‘Crazy and dangerous’. But, alas, on September 11, a scant 4 days later, he writes
On Burning Bibles — If that’s what someone wants to do, fine. Let them do it.
So in his own words it’s crazy to burn the Qur’an, but fine to burn the Bible… Does anyone else smell the stench of hypocrisy? I again state, clearly, that atheists aren’t against religion per se, they are just against Christianity. They should abandon their hypocritical pretense and just admit it.

Try not to lump us all together Jim. Trying to say all atheists are the same is like herding cats. There are decent people who are atheists and some who just are horrible people; likewise there are ignorant Christians and those who I admire.
Personally, I don’t think any book should be burned (or be anything else but read, for that matter). I have been debating people about this issue for a long time.
Jim,
I would only ask that you read my post more carefully. I do think burning any book is crazy and in the case of burning some books, on some occasions, it is also dangerous. But that doesn’t mean that anyone need get all that upset about it. My complaint in my second post was about banning such activity.
You are have a point. There are some atheists though like James Randi who deny all religion and spiritual belief.
Like most, he is likely afraid of Muslim backlash with extreme prejudice.
i read them both, in fact i read all your posts carefully. and the point in your second post was pretty clear. but the first was pretty clear too.
You’re completely wicked Jim and you know it. And Tom is right. There are Atheists and atheists and a-theists and A-theists and exfungusmentalist christian atheists too. And I know a whole bunch of atheists who would go to bed with the Tea Party fungusmentalist christian right wing Islamaphobic fascists who they think ‘have it right’ on Imam Rauf (who is ironically Sufi) and I know atheists who can see through all that, and would not deny the building of a mosque any more than the building of a church or temple. So you’re wicked, Tom is right, and so am I, so there! :-p
