On Atheists: An Observation

It isn’t that atheists think too little of God; the problem is, they think too highly of themselves.

  1. Too true of people who self identify as atheist – particularly american atheists who are nothing but fungusmentalists.* In New Zealand for example I know lots of ‘atheists’ who wouldn’t have a clue what american atheism is, or what agnostic means, or much about fungusmentalism at all. BLAAA. Even ‘humanist’ is becoming complicated in the american setting … I am currently self identifying as being of Tangaroa, the sea, you see I’m nothing but a fish(er) – well a dolphin which isn’t a fish but never mind. :-)

*Pure plagiarism – stolen from a philosopher I know. Colourful word.

  2. Like it…

I always laugh when people who believe in ancient superstitions gets smug!

  4. it’s hard to take your joy seriously when you write ‘gets smug’…

    Schillaci,

Might I point out the superstition you have clearly subscribed to? Herein: Any metaphysic written in a period prior to our own is superstitious.

  6. So who is being smug? Bob represents the sort of ‘atheist’ I will never be. Religions are not ancient ‘superstitions’ at all. How derogatory and smug. I never laugh at things that aren’t funny. I think it’s american atheist humour. Haha not.

  7. ahem – I’m not actually any other sort of ‘atheist’ either… ;-)
