Answering Your Letters

‘Disgruntled from New York’ writes

What’s your deal with atheists?

Dear Dis,

Simply put, for many years Christians have been either unwilling or afraid to take the offensive against atheist propaganda preferring, instead, to lay back and take ‘defensive’ (i.e., apologetic) positions.  In my opinion it’s time to take the fight to them instead of letting them barrage our camps without charging.

Atheists have charged Christians with all manner of intellectual weakness and credulity and, let’s face it, stupidity and silliness.  They barf out books anti-Christian and the lowest sorts of them, the so called ‘ex-christians’ delight in telling all the world why they turned their backs in contempt on their former ‘faith’.  And the best Christians have managed (and this is the sad part) are the likes of William Craig Lane and Josh McDowell- and they are apologists- defenders.  They haven’t yet taken the offensive.  Atheists accuse, they respond.

I’d like to see that reversed.  I’d like to see Christians of all flavors begin to barrage the ridiculous atheists with all manner of challenges to their ‘system of belief’ because, Dis, believe it or nay, atheism is a faith perspective.  Atheism ‘believes’ there is no God- but where’s their proof?

At this point atheists usually whine ‘you can’t prove a negative’.  Indeed- so atheists can’t prove the absence of God.  Why haven’t Christians called them on their logical and intellectual duplicity?  It’s high time Christianity take back what rightly belongs to it- the upper hand, and stop sniveling about the influx of atheists and meet them on the field of battle by attacking them in their own camp.

Surround their city, blow the trumpet, and watch their walls crumble like crackers in soup.

  1. I’m with you Jim, I wholeheartedly agree and I don’t care what anyone thinks.

I heard a preacher once say:

“Give me a few good godly men with water pistols, and we’ll overtake hell itself….”

    That’s the Spirit!

  2. the church for too long has been cowed. yet ‘the gates of hell will not prevail against it’. i guess most christians have forgotten that.

  3. I think the apostle Paul agrees with you:
καὶ πᾶν ὕψωμα ἐπαιρόμενον κατὰ τῆς γνώσεως τοῦ θεοῦ, καὶ αἰχμαλωτίζοντες πᾶν νόημα εἰς τὴν ὑπακοὴν τοῦ Χριστοῦ,

My question then is, “is arguing against them” the right weapon? Or are we just using another “weapon of this world”? As Paul put it:
τὰ γὰρ ὅπλα τῆς στρατείας ἡμῶν οὐ σαρκικὰ
