Pakistan’s government ordered Internet service providers to block Facebook on Wednesday amid anger over a page that encourages users to post images of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. The page on the social networking site has generated criticism in Pakistan and elsewhere because Islam prohibits any images of the prophet. The government took action after a group of Islamic lawyers won a court order Wednesday requiring officials to block Facebook until May 31. By Wednesday evening, access to the site was sporadic, apparently because Internet providers were implementing the order.
Hey I have an idea, why don’t we all tell Muslims that they have no more right to shove their views down people’s throats than Christians or Jews or Buddhists or Taoists or even the absurdly idiotic angry atheists.

I have begun to think that “moderate” or “liberal” minded Muslims either really believe this way or are afraid to speak out. Perhaps a little of both. I am dismayed that a crowd of Muslims can seemingly be whipped up to a frenzy over a few cartoons. That is extremely antithetical to our notions of freedoms. Europe, I think, is starting to recognize this problem, although in a secular way, not religious. Here, the alarm bells have been going off, yet our elected nannies seem to refuse to answer the calls. I will reiterate, the rights enshrined in our Constitution do not guarantee that you have the right not to be offended. How can you really expect that you wont be offended? That really necessitates that the other person may be offended. What these Muslims are saying is that they have a right not to be offended, but everyone else has to suck it up and shut up. They really must believe we are second class citizens because, after all, there is no god but allah and we don’t believe.
We need a new iron curtain. This time between the West and the Islamic world. No more dialog. No more Muslim immigration unless they are apostates. The must renounce all of their koranic views like the communists who defected to the West in the past left their ideologi. The iron curtain worked the last time and the evil empire fell. And it will work again. Please help spread that idea. Reagan’s model must be implemented: We win. They loose. Period.
i couldnt agree less. that kind of radical over-reaction is just as reprehensible to me as muslim extremism on the other end.

Ha ha…agree with you on that one Jim. You seem to be the most level headed person on this discussion board. And like you said, the ‘iron curtain’ policy will be just as reprehensible as ‘islamic extremism’. The time has come for people to try to understand one another a bit better, forcing other people to give up their idealogies is not the answer. How are we then any different from extremists. We have to rise above our narrow minded views and have open talks, challenge a few of their dogmas and be prepared to be challenged in return [no single viewpoint is absolute]. Thus we can progress towards an outlook compatible to both sides. Our nation’s problem is that it has been plagued a lot by monologues, no dialogues.
Uh…Brad and Jim. You still don’t get it, do you? There is no dialogue nor compromise with Muslims. How do I know? I converted to Islam in 1990, foolishly idealistic, thinking Islam was “the religion of peace.” And then, after much study of the Quran, Hadith, etc… (AND meeting a lot of Muslims, by the way), I was repulsed by what I found. The so-called radical Muslims are simply the HONEST ones. They show you the real face of Islam. Do you think you could have sat down over a cup of coffee and convinced those terrorists not to fly into the World Trade Center? Being polite and PC to Muslims will only increase their arrogance and contempt for the Western lifestyle. Every concession just makes them think we are weak. The scary thing is how Westerners just don’t understand the Islamic mindset. It’s like debating with a cave man. He won’t understand any part of a discussion. All he understands is whether he can club you over the head or whether you will (physically) stop him. Brute strength. Harsh authority. Check out the leaders of the Muslim world. Are they nice, reasonable people? See a lot of democracy there? Think it’s just a coincidence? Wake up, wake up, wake up, people – before you wake up to Ameristan or Eurostan, complete with barbaric sharia law.
