Total Depravity: The Senior Citizen Murderer Edition

A 69-year-old Tellico Village man is being held today on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting death of a 74-year-old fellow village resident. Bond was set at $250,000 during an arraignment for Norman Bren Whitton, of Cheestana Way in Tellico Village, according to Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider. He is charged with killing Larry Butcher, 74, of Saligugi Way, on Thursday night with a .38-caliber pistol, Guider said.

Which only goes to show that you’re never too old to be so filled with hatred and rage and to strike down the object of your contempt. And what was the source of his hatred?

Butcher, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, was lying next to his golf cart and behind Whitton’s vehicle. … It appears, the sheriff said, “that the two persons involved became involved in an argument over the use of the roadway.” Whitton has a valid handgun permit, Guider said.

Yup- road rage- for a golf cart… And the killer had a gun permit. Doesn’t that make it alright then?

Total Depravity- it knows no lower, or upper, limits.  One is never too young or old to be gripped in its deathly grasp.
